I’m not saying that this is how it was done, how it’s done, or how it should be done. It’s how I do it. Use headphones... and a bass. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNamaYtJnYc

Cool Paul,,(you're the other Paul!) Most, if not all bass players should be able to pick that one up on their own pretty quickly. No? Even non bass players! How about "Something", "Penny Lane", "Helter Skelter", "Day Tripper", "Rain", "For The Benefit of Mr. Kite", "Think For Yourself"(Fuzz bass!), or "All My Loving"? (Etc). For those who may like to learn those on bass too, but haven't the experience to pick 'em up quickly. Sub, Mike D., Tom T., Mark K., Bass2x, etc., (any others come to mind?) Nice job Paul. Nice bass too. Sub will have fond memories flood him, I'm sure. John

Good work, Paul.
Pop quiz, no peeking. Who stole part of that lick for a big hit?
Hey John, I played "Something" about ten or fifteen times at the NAMM convention this year LOL. Personally, I don't put lessons for cover tunes up on YouTube. But, like drinking, just cause I don't do it doesn't mean everyone else shouldn't. I encourage my wife to drink often. It improves my luck.

Thanks Gentlemen.
I'm "another Paul" in first name only.
Mike... this is my first "lesson post". You know this is really moonlighting for me. My thing is arrangements and compositions for bass.
I'll be posting an Abbey Road from "Mustard" to the end (not the End) soon.
Give us a hint: is this a pop or rock question?

Paul, here's a hint:
It was a band and they were considered "rock" back then, but maybe not now.

Thanks a lot Mike,
During a sleepless night, I cheated. I didn't drag a comb thru my head but wikied this:
In 1973, "Come Together" was the subject of a lawsuit brought against Lennon by Big Seven Music Corp. (owned by Morris Levy) who was the publisher of Chuck Berry's "You Can't Catch Me". This was because it sounded similar musically to Berry's original and shared some lyrics (Lennon sang "Here come ol' flattop, he come groovin' up slowly" and Berry's had sung"Here come a flattop, he was movin' up with me"). Before recording, Lennon and McCartney deliberately slowed the song down and added a heavy bass riff in order to make the song more original.[9] After settling out of court, Lennon promised to record three other songs owned by Levy.[10] "You Can't Catch Me" and "Ya Ya" were released on Lennon's 1975 album Rock 'n' Roll, but the third, "Angel Baby", remained unreleased until after Lennon's death. Levy again sued Lennon for breach of contract, and was eventually awarded $6,795.[11]
I wasn't going to Berry my head in the sand.
Paul

Paul, I remember the Chuck Berry flap, but forgot "Come Together" was part of it.
No, I'm thinking of a song by a band that used a bass riff that was quite a bit like the one in "Come Together," my hint above still stands.
Anyone? Anyone? (doing my best Ben Stein impression.)

How about:......"Love grows where my Rosemary goes", and nobody knows but me.
I was told by my mother back then that one of the members in that band, (Edison Lighthouse), might have been a cousin. ???? Me mum was born and raised in England. Guess it was a last name that one of the members had that was the same as one of my cousins around the same age as those band members......I don't really think it was a cousin though, as her family over there would have written my mom to let her know of such a thing.
Anyway,,,the bass and guitar riff to start that song has some similarity, no?

Yes, good one, John, but that's not the one I had in mind.
The Beatles influenced everyone, John, you should study them.

John,
It's in the intro. It's in a minor key.

AHHHH,,,,One riff just popped in my head, and if correct, the band "could maybe" be considered something other than Rock now,,,(not sure what though.
Drum roll.....
The Eagles?,,,,"One Of These Nights"????? That song's signature bass riff does remind me of Come Together's. Em key! Got to be it!

Bingo!!! Yesterday, there was a YouTube video of it that showed Timothy B.Schmidt using similar fingering to what Paul uses, but today it's gone, LOL. And that's why, tomorrow, I won't put up cover stuff on YouTube. A lot of work can suddenly go kaput. Notice the cryptic Beatles reference

Seriously,
He's one FINE musician. The live Eagles stuff: Hall of Fame, Final tour, is a pleasure everytime I hear him, AND them.
