Hey guys, my nephew Antonio, is at Dallas Childrens Hospital this morning having surgery to repair 4 holes in his heart. He's almost 7 months old, a sweet baby, and he needs your prayers and well wishes. He will be under for 5 to 6 hours to repair the holes, he will be on a bypass machine and his heart will be stopped for at least an hour and a half of that time.
He was born 6 week premature with a heart defect called Tetrology of Fallot. There is a hole between chambers and he dopesn't get the oxygen he needs. He has been waiting for this surgery, he had to be bigger and stronger than a newborn, if possible. He has an amazing mom who followed everything the doctors told her, to the letter. He has never cried more than a few seconds, he has never been left unattened in a room, not for a nap or anything. This baby has never spent one second of his life after birth, without eyes on him. Day or night.
Anyway, Please, if you pray, please pray that this turns out well, that the doctors are well rested, and God guides them through this without any problems. Also that this tiny baby can be strong enough to make it through without any complications.
Thanks guys...

Dear Caroline,
I'm so sorry to hear about your nephew. What a scary prospect for a parent. Samantha had spinal surgery when she was a baby too, so I do have some sense of their anxiety.
Additionally, I have a friend who is one of the country's leading pediatric cardiac surgeons (I'll never forget one patient was born with only half heart, and he constructed the other half...), and I seem to recall that "hole repair" is a very time-consuming procedure but the success rate is very high.
All that aside, I'll be thinking of them this morning and sending positive energy their way. Do let us know how it goes....
Take care, Beth

My heart goes out to the parents. My brother-in-law is a pediatric cardiologist and I am sure he has seen this and successful repaired it. Best wishes and prayers for that family.

My prayers also go out to Antonio and the family. Be at peace. You're already in His hands. What He choses to do is what we try to figure out.

Thank you all.
I just got a call, his surgery has been postponed until 11 today, not sure why but I do know that we are all more nimble in the afternoon.
My sister in law has been through a lot in her life before she ever decided to have a baby. She and I have always talked about any possible problems. She is a great mom, has been a non stop source of strength for him and everyone else. She is 22 years old, but behaves like a wise old grandmother with her diligence to this baby. I admire her more than she'll ever know. My oldest son has autism, and she has been aware of "issues" that can arise when you least expect them. She thinks I'm a strong person, but I just have "issues", not medical problems with my son. It's a whole other ball game.
I'll send her your well wishes and let her know that she has more support than she ever thought she would. It will make her feel better to know this.
Oh, she told me that Antonio has been flirting with the nurses, he won't let the males touch him, he'll cry and pout, but if a female comes into the room, he smiles at them and lets them do whatever they need to.

Hey Caroline, you know my prayers are always with you, but mostly on today, have my special candles lit and my heart is praying its self out, gotta go to work tonight and i'll make sure I stop by the chapel and send another prayer your way, you are a very strong woman, and i'm sure it's gonna be ok, the doctors in Dallas are the best in Texas, I have worked with alot of them, being in the field i'm in, I've worked all over Dallas and i've seen a very high success rate in this. Just want you to know that you're not alone and we all love you Caroline, sorry the tears are streaming down my face as I type this..this is for you too...let me know if I can be of any help in any way..Dallas is not that far from me....love always, glyn

Keep praying, they are sending him home until Monday morning. They had another newborn come in in critical condition. It's worst case, first. This makes the third postponement of his surgery. His mom is a wreck, especially after all of the info had been relayed about how bad his heart is. Now they have to drive three hours and then back again on Monday.

I know how it feels to have a sick kid, although my son never had anything quite this serious wrong with him....
My hopes and wishes go out to both of you, sweetheart, and the next time that you're able to, give him a hug from all of the songwriters around here, OK?
Love you, Caroline...

Sam, That's so sweet of you, thank you. One sick child is no less stressing than another. I've been around a lot of parents and we are all amazed by one another when it comes to dealing with the special needs of each others kids. To us, it's just life, to others, it's an eye opener to how we feel about our own problems in reality. No one child is more important than another, not to God or anyone, other than the parents, of course. I will give him the biggest hug, the next time I'm allowed near him. My kids have been sick off and on, I'm feeling like I'm coming down with soemthing and no one is allowed near the baby until he's well from the surgery. So, I probably won't see him until after the first of the year. Which is sad to me, he lives within view of my back door, up on the hill in the little white house. I haven't been able to see him in 3 weeks already. It's been very hard to not go up to see him, but I know, if he so much as has the sniffles, they won't do this surgery until he's well.

I just saw this post, I've prayed already for the baby and all concerned. So tiny to have to face such problems, don't worry, God has a special love for children, what ever happens, He is there, maybe healing him already. May His blessings be on you all at this time of stress.

Hi Caroline, I am sorry for the postmonement, I know how stressful it is to prepare yourself for something like this, then have it delayed. I have faith everything will turn out all right, procedures are so amazing these days, so tell all to keep their spirits up.

Thanks Letha, The advancements are amazing, I've learned even more about the surgery since my sil has been home. She'd been informed of every aspect of the procedure, and has been sharing with me what they've told her. She's o.k. with all of it, even though it's all scary. But, she's a very strong young woman, and she's got a very strong child. I'm trying to get my pics to come up so I can show a pic of him, but it's not working for some reason. Maybe I'll have something I can get up tomorrow, or maybe even later today. He's such a chunky little guy for being 4 lb 11 oz at birth. I was the same weight though, and I've chuncked up too, so I guess he's not alone, lol!!!
Thanks for the prayers, It's just a waiting game, now I suppose, to see if he'll actually have this done Tues. or if it's gonna be put off again. Never know, but it will happen, there is no choice in the matter.

I pray that God's guiding hand postponed the surgery for a blessed reason and that this infant child be cradled in safety during and after the procedure.
Amen.

Caroline, I will pray for your nephew. My daughter, Kate, had an anomalous left coronary artery and had to have open heart surgery at six and half months of age, then again at three and a half. She had a pacemaker installed at eighteen for a different condition, but she is doing fine. She is studying pre-med at Loyola University and her goal is to become a pediatric surgical cardiologist. She made her mind up to do that in the days of recovery following her surgery at three and a half. I tell you this to offer hope of success with the surgery, and support from someone who has been through this a few times.
Jack

Jerry, Heidi, Kaley, Calvin, Mike, John, kh, Sam, Thanks. 30 years from now, I hope he's making his place in the world, as he should be. He's a strong little guy, he was in a great mood yesterday, I heard him over the phone, laughing and playing. I wanted to see him, but I think I'm getting the flu so I had to stay away. She promises to call with updates tomorrow, so I'm praying hard that it's going to happen and he's well. I have a Christmas party planned around him, it's going to be a "Heart Warming Christmas", everything will be done around that theme. It's going to be fun, and so special to have him here. I can't wait to see him again.
Jack, I'm so glad to know your daughter is doing well. I've been threatened with a pacemaker over the last year, but I've talked my cardiologist out of it. (for now) My kids are preparing for it, if necessary. They have a few games with warnings that they aren't to be used around anyone with one, so they want to get rid of them. Just to be sure they don't make a mistake, it's so sweet to see pure hearts, show so much love. You must be so proud of your daughter, she's doing something that matters to her, most people only dream of following their passions, but to actually do it, that's an amazing gift, alone. Thank you for the encouragement. I feel so blessed to have you guys around.
I will keep everyone posted.

Fingers crossed, and prayers going up, he's supposed to be going in at 8 and under at 9. They have found out that three holes are in the muscle tissue, so they are planning to leave them alone b/c they feel they will close on their own. They will close the largest, which is causing the mixing of the blood and they will try to save the valve, if possible, if not they will be using donated cardiac tissue, or bovine cardiac tissue to rebuild a valve for him.
This is so stressful and he's not even my baby. I can't imagine the feelings and thoughts going through his parents heads right now.
I'll re-post after she calls, she said she'll update me as they update her.

"Sometimes reaching a goal earlier than planned is a great achievement. It shows you have worked hard, pushed ahead and made it happen. However, sometimes reaching a goal far past your original deadline, long after you wanted to complete it, and after the accolades you might once have gotten for the achievement are over, it is an even greater achievement. This shows you never gave up, due to adversity, deficit, criticism and those little life detours that end many dreams and goals. In many ways, this is a reason for even more pride!" -Brian Austin Whitney
