Anyone have a favorite drum solo?
As a kid, everyone had to slap the table (or whatever was around) to the Sufari's "Wipe Out"
As I matured, The Beatles' "Why don't we do it in the road?" had a little more finesse.

As a kid, my favorite was Jerry Edmonton, playing "Born to be Wild" by Steppenwolf. As I matured it was: Jerry Edmonton, playing "Born to be Wild" by Steppenwolf.  Mike

My favorite drum solo of all time was performed by Joe Morello sitting in with our High School Stage Band for a concert. He had given a clinic earlier, but when he went into his solo during the concert it was smooth and totally unique. I have never seen another drummer do what he did so effortlessly.

Just kidding.
I love the understated solo that Ringo did on side B of Abbey Road. As a songwriter, I just found that it served the song well. Not flashy, but just right.

Speaking of Ringo, I happen to love his backward rolls on "Come Together". It is unique, as far as I have ever heard.

My favorite drum solos were when we did "Toad" & "I'm so Glad" in the 60's. That gave us time to get a drink and a smoke and check out the girls. Sometimes we would just let Kim go on and on...... well, until he started giving us the evil eye

That's due to him being a left handed drummer on a righty kit. He explained that and showed what he meant in a TV interview this summer. he said he would have liked to take the creative credit, but it was due to how his first hit of a roll starts with is left hand. That's also why his fills, when starting from the snare, have little accents, to reset his hands to be able to go around to the right more easily. He blamed his mom for not getting left handed drums as to why the Come Together is a backards roll. But people seem to love it, he says.
