Don't think Christine will mind if I move a copy of this down here: ### Just Plain Folks (JPF) is launching a South Eastern Massachusetts and Cape Cod Chapter of our organization. The first meeting of this new chapter will be held January 31, 2005 from 7-9pm at Musicians Development Institute (2277 State Road, G-1, Plymouth MA) and will feature a special discussion with legendary innovator and visionary in the field of live sound, producer and engineer, Dinky Dawson whose skills have contributed to the success of some of the most prominent artists in the music industry. To attend the meeting just email co-chapter coordinator: Christine Mascott (christine.mascott@verizon.net). Realizing the importance of technical production in the music scene of the 1960s, British born Dinky Dawson first became known for his innovative equipment modifications. He became Fleetwood Mac's sound engineer for their European and American tours, concerts, radio and TV shows for which he designed and operated one of the most sophisticated sound setups to be used by a touring band at that time. He was the first live engineer to mix from the audience. Dawson also collaborated with Charlie Watkins at Watkins Electric Music (WEM), London England, on the design and operation of WEM equipment, used by all British groups of the sixties era. He emigrated to America as sound engineer for The Byrds. Other tour credits include The Mamas and Papas and Rick James. In the early seventies, he founded Dawson Sound Company based on a unique and revolutionary acoustic suspension sound system. Dawson Sound was the sound reinforcement company for tours of The Kinks, Joan Baez, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Jeff Beck, Steely Dan, Linda Ronstadt, Joni Mitchell, the J. Geils Band, and Warren Zevon among many others. Dawson's mixing can be heard on numerous live albums, including Mahavishnu Orchestra's Between Nothingness and Eternity, Lou Reed‚s Rock and Roll Animal, Joan Baez's From Every Stage, The J. Geils Band Live and Steely Dan's single, Bodhisattava. He has also worked in the studio as a sound consultant on Lou Reed's Berlin, and Steely Dan's Katy Lied, Royal Scam, Aja and Greatest Hits. As production consultant/sound engineer for New Kids on the Block, Inner Circle, Chris Whitely and Ke, Dawson has continued touring into the nineties. He produced and engineered the reggae/soca group Noddaclu's album as well as producing The Mulligans. He has also worked on several multi-media productions with dancer Sharron Weiner. Dawson has been guest lecturer at Berkelee College of Music and writes for Mix Magazine and Musician Magazine. In 1998 Billboard books printed "Life On The Road" The incredible Rock 'n' Roll Adventures of Dinky Dawson. In 2000 RYKO-Disc released "Fleetwood Mac Shrine 69" a vintage live recording engineered by Dawson. In 2002 he formed Negril West Inc. a Multi-Media Production Company which an "educational and entertainment portal" into Caribbean and African artforms. ### Hey Christine - how about updating your profile to show you're a Mass resident? ------------------ Marty my new home It may be cold out but you heart doesn't need to be. Hi Marti,
Thanks for moving this press release over here for us!
I know it's a long haul to Plymouth from your neck of the woods but if you can make it to our first chapter meeting, you'll be in for a treat! Dinky Dawson is an amazing live producer and person. He's full of so much wisdom and his stories are pretty entertaining too! (Lol)
Hope we get the chance to meet soon!

Kim - I'm trying to arrange my schedule so I can be on your side of the state that night. Its not really that bad a trip if you're a driving lunatic like me - probably takes about the same amount of time as driving from Plymouth to the North End during rush hour. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/wink.gif) ------------------ Marty my new home It may be cold out but you heart doesn't need to be. Where's George Jetson when you really need him?!! Lol.
At any rate, we're also holding a member showcase Saturday March 5th from 7-10 PM at Kiskadee Coffee Company, #18 Main Street in downtown Plymouth. Maybe you can make that one, if not this.
Press release is on the way!
