Hopefully, someone else in the Greater Philadelphia area, heard studio ace drummer Earl Young talk about his career in the Philly studios on WOGL 98.1 FM this morning.
They played great songs, one after another, that Earl played percussion on. He also commented on his techniques, studio tricks and his creativity.
It was very insightful. It's a shame that the DJ kept having to interrupt him to discuss the weather, traffic, time check and local news...but hey that's radio.
Earl played drums on songs by The Tramps, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, The O'Jays, and many other countless Disco hits.
He discussed how he used Tom Toms on the O'Jays hit "Backstabbers" and how he played sticks on the rim on Lou Rawls hit "You'll Never Find (Another Love like Mine)".
As a Bass player, I have a better understanding and appreciation of drummers.
Gary

I wish I caught it. Didn't he play a lot with Willie Weeks? Mike ------------------ Mike Dunbar Music
You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash It's only music. -niteshift Mike Dunbar Music

"Do not endeavor to be the smartest kid in a dumb class. Instead, you are better off being the dumbest kid in the smartest class, where you will be challenged and you will learn. If you aren't growing, you are dying." -Brian Austin Whitney
