“Drill Baby Drill” strikes a compelling, deliberate contrast: musically, it’s laid-back and bright, but lyrically, it carries a heavy, urgent message. It’s a protest song about the modern ecological crisis that takes familiar slogans and turns them into cynical commentary on the long-term consequences of prioritizing short-term extraction over long-term survival. I recorded the chorus on my iPhone and uploaded the melody in Suno. Once again, the vocals are an AI-generated version of my voice. Drill Baby Drillhttps://soundclick.com/song/15319073[Instrumental Intro] [Verse] The river's running dry again The barges can't get through The fields are turning brown and gold Beneath a burning blue Summers keep getting longer The nights don't cool us down And every year the waterline Moves closer to our town [Pre-chorus] We know what's happening We know the score We've had the warning We've heard it before [Chorus] Drill baby drill Till the oceans spill Burn baby burn Why didn't we learn? We waited too long Now the tide's rising strong We'll live with the cost Of the future we've lost [Break] [Verse] The ocean's getting hotter now The coral's turning white The fish are disappearing From the waters once alive The glaciers lose another mile The sea climbs toward the shore Every storm that comes our way Seems stronger than before [Pre-chorus] We know what's happening We know the score We've had the warning We've heard it before [Chorus] Drill baby drill Till the oceans spill Burn baby burn Why didn't we learn? We waited too long Now the tide's rising strong We'll live with the cost Of the future we've lost [Bridge] We had the time We had the means We had a choice Between the fire and the green [Interlude] [Final chorus] Drill baby drill Till the oceans spill Burn baby burn Why didn't we learn? We waited too long Now the tide's rising strong We'll live with the cost Of the future we've lost [Outro] Drill baby drill (drill) Till the oceans spill Burn baby burn... Why didn't we learn?

I guess you never talked to a publisher , They don't want your explanation . The song should do that on getting the story . Yup political songs . Sounds good Rob. Well like always no sense of humor on Trump dancing . you sure love politics Rob . The brainwashing continues . https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTDjRNWce/

It's nice and airy but the contrast is the issue for me. It should sound more like a protest and less like liberal, post-coital ruminations. The words as good as they are lost in translation by the stark contrasts between the angst of the message and the messenger, who is clearly thinking about something else.

Well its a robot , maybe if a human sung it , it fix the problem

I agree with both reviews. First, you don't get two paragraphs before the song starts to explain what its about. This aint MTV unplugged
Country is usually straight forward in meaning. Nobody listening would know what this is about.
Also agree with Mike the musuc sounds like a day at the beach,, not a day of toxins at the beach.
The guitar and melody and production is actually very good. Write new words to it.

This aint MTV unplugged. ha ha . Or soul Train. White people still can't dance. They looked retarded. So their down to hillbilly line dance in Georgia. I'm sure in 50 years the robots will be dancing , right after they steal your job . I guess on your death bed you'll say Suno . Maybe the Fairy Tale is real and you'll go to Disney Land in the sky. I'll guarantee , you wont hear fucking political songs up there .

Rob! The preamble sounded ChatGPT. Oh no! The roboots have you in captivity. No mind. We will rescue you…ha.
Some decent reviews here already. Enjoying the thread.
I’ll go against the grain. I like the lyric and the music choice seemed sadly apropo. Resigned. Minor chord sad.

Thanks, guys, for all the feedback. I’ve read everything and given it some thought. There are some very valid points here, even though I don’t agree with all of them. I probably did over-explain the song in my intro. I wasn’t trying to write a publisher pitch—just explain where the idea came from—but I get the point that ideally the song itself should tell the story. The bigger question for me is the contrast between the music and the lyrics. That was intentional. I wanted the song to sound bright and almost carefree while the lyrics describe something anything but carefree. Bill’s description of it as “resigned” is pretty much what I was going for. But I can also see Michael’s point that the contrast may be too strong and that the message can get lost. The comments about the lyrics being too vague are interesting, too. I thought “Drill Baby Drill” would make the political/environmental connection pretty obvious, but apparently not to everyone. Something to think about. One clarification about the “robot” comments: Suno did not write the chorus melody. I wrote it and recorded the chorus on my iPhone, then uploaded it to Suno. Suno generated the rest of the arrangement and used an AI-generated version of my voice for the vocals. It sounds surprisingly close to my real voice—so close that even my wife initially thought I had actually sung it. 😂 So yes, there’s definitely a robot involved, but the song isn’t exactly something I typed into a machine and pressed “generate” on. 😎 Anyway, lots to think about. I may make some changes—or I may decide the contrast is exactly what I want. Either way, thanks for listening and taking the time to comment.

At the end of day, its yours. I think your idea with contrasting elements might work, if there was a video to go with it, or in a movie.
As is the music is being asked to contrast itself, Sting night be able to pull that off, most probably cant
