A Country Ballad I wrote for my adult daughter and Son.
I’m Still Here (An Ode to my Daughter and Son) Copyright 2026 OpenMicMusic
v1 Did I cross your mind today? Is life still moving fast? I know how time can slip away when you think it’s gonna last.
Has it been that long? Oh how my little ones have grown. So proud of you and your family (Boo), I just wanted you to know…
ch ...that I’m still here And I’m just fine. It’s the same ole crazy days and lonely nights.
But you know me, I’ll be alright. I just need to hear your voice from time to time.
‘cause I’m still here...
...and you’re still mine.
v2 If I could do it over, I’d do it all again. I wouldn’t spend my time dancin' with demons in my head.
I would have held you closer, Bo, let Jesus lead the way. And love you from a place I didn’t know until today.
But I’m still here. And I’m just fine. It’s the same ole same regrets that keep me up at night.
But you know me, I’ll be alright. It’s just good to know you’re safe and my “littles” fine.
‘Cause I’m still here… ...And you’re still mine.
Br All you saw were remnants of a child so badly scarred, un-reconciled inside a broken man. I look back now, it shames me how I tried to hide my love, and shared with you my bleeding scars, instead.
v3 Can you tell your Mama all I’ve said to you. I’m glad she found the peace I never could.
Thank you for holding on as long as you did. But if it all goes bad, again I’ll be here for good.
Ch ‘cause I’m still Here and I’m just fine. Not the same ole man still lookin’ for a fight.
Will you know me? In a different light? It’s just good to hear you, both from time to time.
‘Cause I’m still here. And you’re still mine.
Repeat x 2.

Very touching and deeply personal. Taking accountability is something most people never do,especially in a song. ‘Cause I’m still here…...And you’re still mine.<<<< Great line.
Can't wait to hear the music. Well done!

Thank you, Kay-Lynn. The songs seem to write themselves the more honest you are....painful honesty, even more so. I appreciate it, Kay.
Thank you.

"If I could do it over, I’d do it all again" If I could do it over, I’d make a minor change I wouldn’t spend my time dancin' with demons in my head I would hold you closer, Bo, let Jesus lead the way And love you from a place I didn’t know until today Thank you for holding on as long as you did Perhaps with a little help I’ll be here for good Minor tweaks... thoughts...

Thanks JPV, appreciate the look and suggs but chasing those "demons" away took more than a "minor change". Remnants of childhood trauma comes in all shapes and sizes. Many can never quite expel these "demons" and it negatively affects their whole lives, in their relationships, friends, work, mental health, income, family, law n order, addiction, self esteem, suicide....It took me 50 years to come to terms with it.
Most dont!
Thanks for the look!

Thanks JPV, appreciate the look and suggs but chasing those "demons" away took more than a "minor change". We have very similar stories, minus the drugs and alcohol... I can relate. The reason I suggested the change was for grammar and continuity only. Perhaps the verse should explain why "I'd do it all again" is for the sake of lessons learned... as you explained above. Lessons learned, and I’d do it all again But, I wouldn’t waste time dancin' with demons in my head Just noodling, keep or sweep LET'S HEAR IT!

Thank you. You're very welcome, and you're right. It's easy to write in the third person, alot more scary to write in the first person, even if it's fiction. But that's why we love it.
