What about the mother who works three jobs to put food on the table.
What about the kids who study and work their way out of the ghetto.

There were some poor people, but decent people, only one career druggie dysfunctional who remains that way to this day. And Ben, the biggest questions in my mind... If he did 40 stints in prison selling drugs, how many people OD'd or died on those drugs? If they did, are they acceptable collateral damage, sacrificed to the glory achieved by Jelly Roll, the celebrity? If his particular drugs killed nobody, he contributed to an enterprise and degeneracy that has killed hundreds of thousands. Lastly, When Jelly Roll peaks and starts down the backside of his career, will he stay clean?

My entire life, I have watched the "social scientists" in colleges give reasons why criminals are predetermined by genetics and background.
I don't argue with that. I think that there is truth in it. But at what point do you draw a line? (rhetorical question)
The actual question...
Drugs are headed into the United States every day, that kill people.
In my wife's small town in Iowa, her brother got mixed up with the town druggie...and ended up with with psychosis and then killing himself. 6 children in the family. 1 got deep into drugs and it ended his life.
THE QUESTION FOR BEN,
There were boats headed to the USA stocked with drugs that would have likely resulted in deaths in the US.
Is it a better solution to try to capture them and understand the root causes that led these boaters to a life of criminal activity?...
or
Is it better to blow them out of the water, and the dying that those drugs would have caused...never happened?

The real true cause of drugs is that people want them. No market, no drugs.
So you could argue that if not jelly roll somebody else will sell it,and no buyers no money in drugs.
They have considered death penalty for drug dealers.

All of this reminds me of one of my guilty pleasures back on TS.
I would state that if the world never new Jim Morrison, Jimmy Hendrix, Janis Joplin or Michael Jackson...musically there would be no sense of loss and the drug addled rock-stars who snuffed themselves out with excess and overdoses, would never have existed as a role model, for the casualties that we never even heard of.
When I would write that, this bevy of old hippies would become apoplectic. To say that about their rock gods was heresy.
Truthfully their reactions tickled me and I meant the statement.

If Ben hadn't posted this movie, I wouldn't have known anything.
My only hope is that he dies good for humanity, gives back, creates change...not by saying don't do this, but by creating opportunity for people in his situation He got a pardon by governor , So he must of did things in favorable light to get one

There would have been guitar greats nonetheless. Clapton, the heroine addict managed not to kill himself. There would have been a Van Halen, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, White Snake, SPRINGSTEEN...or their equivalents. 1-4-5-6 would have gotten used up same as it has today. What is more important? A cure for pancreatic cancer or Foxy Lady? Computers and cancer research were inevitable with or without a crew of drug addled rock stars. How fun...I'm getting to do it again.

And guitar sales just keep tanking... They went through the roof during Covid because people wanted something to do while they were locked away. The mfgs saw that as a green light to ramp production. Then covid ends and demand goes away.
