I’m on the river of no return
And this old steam-boat can’t turn the stern
Most rivers roll on to the seven seas
But this one’s home is heavenly
I’m on the river of no return
And the shore awaiting can’t be earned
A roomy mansion in a spacious land
By His mercy and His gracious hand
The midnight currents with whom I wrestle
Have always tried to sink this vessel
But somewhere far beyond the Big Dipper
This old trawler has an unseen Skipper
I’m on the river of no return
And I’m runnin’ out of coal to burn
How much longer can this river be
When will my Captain deliver me
O I’m on the river
The river of no return…
