What a FANTASTIC clip that is.. and it just shows how amazing Dolly's talent is both as a writer AND an entertainer. I am not sure what year that was, but it had to be around 69-74ish don't you think? Wouldn't that be 45+ years ago? That would make her 24-29 years old at the time. Dolly has to be one of the greatest female writers, artists and entertainers as well as businesswomen of all time.

DOLLY never be another, what comes across is a lovely lady with a beautiful voice ; on top of that she is a highly talented song writer
I am not sure if she collaborates , but she always has Top Musicians around her
The songs she writes, each one different none a rewrite of a previous hit Her Voice and Musical Talent sells her songs
Even a simple song that was a a minor hit for her became a Classic Recording by Whitney Houston
The secret of her success?, Being proud of her humble family roots, and that shows in her writing
Dolly was not hyped up by some big publicity machine , she is a natural who still remembers where she came from

One of the most important principles of songwriting is to remember that a good song is a partnership of many different components, all working together to produce a satisfying musical experience.
In that respect, song components are either enhancing or compromising their combined effects.

Well said, Cheyenne:
We saw her often in Brentwood at the Hardware Store, Mike's Grocery... and other public places in town there or in nearby Franklin. She was always gracious and friendly to everyone who knew or even recognized her.
A real "Natural" for sure... and they don't make many with such talent and decency these days.

Thanks for sharing that, Gary. I really enjoyed it. Dolly is unique in so many ways - as a singer, as a songwriter and as a human being. Impossible not to love her.

Yes, Brian, wasn't she a lovely young girl? And a lovely one still.
My fascination is the completeness of the storyline of her Song, replete with the 'twist' or 'denouement' in the final Verse, and that she gets it done in a little over two minutes. This is good storytelling. It's light. It's not a great classic, other than love of Dolly makes it so. But it is an accomplished Songwriter's Lyric. She didn't despair of finding that satisfactory ending, and resort to a Bridge to keep it interesting long enough turn it to enable a final giving of the Chorus. She broke the Third Verse Curse, completed the story with humor, and satisfied the listener with completion.
Worthy of study. You are correct sir. Thank you for the great find and example!
