Some of that language is designed so the contest can play your song on their website, put it on "this years' winner" CDs, and in general be able to say that "this song" was a big winner in our contest, without having to pay you for it. If that were all it were limited to, I would sign on, no problem. What got me was that I would basically be signing them co-ownership of the song. But whatever they did with it -- sold it to Lada Ga Ga, placed it in a commercial, etc. -- they could get paid for without having to pay me a thing. Or even get my permission. Just too much.
