I register songs in collections usually of 3 or 4. Songs are identified individually by Title. If a Publisher signs one of the songs in the collection that is the only song he has rights to. The songwriter is free to sing the other songs or retain ownership of them until the copyright runs out or he signs them to a publisher.
Registering Collections is a convenivent way of saving money for a registration.
