I think you are confusing copyright with the "registration" of a copyright with the LOC. Any song/lyric/poem,... obtains a "copyright" as soon as it is put down in a fixed medium (here at JPF!). Why register at all then, you ask? Legally you can't sue someone for infringement unless it is registered (and expedited registration is $500 or something for a song). I guess registering collections (multiple songs at one time) would be a good idea if you feel that "registration need", but are you really protected?? Any lawsuit for infringement would be super expensive and tough in a court setting. Would you collect? If you record and sell large numbers of CD, then I would suppose you do some registering. A lot of us don't do it, though. Advantages: http://www.publaw.com/advantage.htmlKevin

"Defeatist Pessimists and Rose Colored Glasses Optimists are lonely companions, victims even. Both ideologies imply predestined outcomes, and therefore breed inactivity in its victims. Inaction is the only sure way to lose at anything in life. All positive action guarantees at least a fighting chance." -Brian Austin Whitney
