Time is a valuable commodity. With successful celebrities, writers, producers, managers, executives, etc..., their time is mostly spent doing what they do best that leads to their success. In the entertainment industry, it is not uncommon for millions of people to share the dream of becoming the next "star". The truth is, not everyone is a star.
With that said, the fee being charged is not in place so much as to reach in a person's pocket as it is to weed out those who aren't willing to do whatever it might take to find success. Yes, you could definitely go find people who are willing to offer you advice and critiques for free. Yeah, you could probably find those who might be able to take a risk and sign ya. We all know how far and few between that is.
The fees aren't unreasonable. IF you think you're ready and you think you have material that can compete with the stuff already out there on the radio, then the rewards can potentially far exceed that "fee" you're paying to get someone in a position to do something for you to listen. Most of these fees are less than a hundred bucks. One song placement will most likely get you a few hundred bucks at worst. A hit song can get you a few thousand or more.
Is it worth the risk for you to go out on a limb and do something you normally wouldn't do? With someone like Rodney Jerkins taking a listen and giving you video feedback, I would think so.
I looked at the website. Looks pretty good to me. Do I need this service? Not really. Would I be opposed to using the service? No. I'd consider it. Do I think I am ready? I don't know, maybe.
Any avenue is worth looking into. Not every avenue is worth taking. This one is at least worth the consideration. They have a refund policy as well.
One piece of advice I would give those of you who are considering something like this. Make damn sure you have something completely marketable to present to the featured pro. First impressions matter. Choose your most marketable songs. Choose the best demos. Treat this as if you were being considered for a high level job with a major corporation.
If you don't have material that is ready to compete with what's on the radio, then don't waste your time and don't waste the time of the pros.
That's all I have to say. For those of you who are considering taking the plunge, good luck. I hope you make it somewhere. I'll be rooting for you.
Ron, I've heard of you before. I don't remember where or when, but I know your name. I probably heard it in conversation with someone I know. I just know I recognize your name. I could be mistaken and be thinking of someone else, but I am pretty sure I have heard your name spoke somewhere.
Rodney Jerkins is a pretty big name. He was recently on a judging panel with P Diddy on P Diddy's show STAR MAKER. I had a friend who competed on that show. One of Rodney Jerkin's artists signed under his Darkchild label recorded a song of mine last year. Didn't go anywhere and that same song got picked up by an Australian Idol contestant from last year for his album.
Anyway, Blazetrak seems cool. I'm gonna show some people your site and talk to some of my cowriting/production partners about it.
Peace
