Hey Colin,
Just a personal anecdote....... I took a month off, just to concentrate on music. Only got three songs done, only one to finished broadcast standard. For a day, I'd take a notepad and voice recorder, and just jot down some ideas. Then, in a couple of days, play/read it back. You'd be surprised how many ideas you can create just by letting the mind roam free.
