Since the overall feedback on our song was not too positive, I thought it might make sense to try to make some massive changes. I kept the chorus because that is what worked best and decided to describe different situations jointly rowing across a river leads to a win-win situation. The chorus connects the verses and the bridge summarizes everything. I have no idea if this could work or not but I would love to hear your thoughts.

That’s How Life Works

[Verse]
Two trucks pulled over, flashers on
Late July and the heat so strong
Your jack was broke, my tire was shot
Neither one of us moved ‘til we swapped what we’ve got

[Verse]
He can’t drive, she’s behind on rent
She holds him now like he held her then
She’s got his back, he's got hers
Sometimes in life you just take turns

[Chorus]
When you row another person across the river
Yeah, that’s how life works, yeah, that’s how life works
Two hands on the oars, same song, same shiver
Yeah, that’s how life works, yeah, that’s how life works

[Verse]
Weekends spent on his broken shed
I hammered boards, he poured the cement
Months rolled by, I fell behind
He showed up before I lost my mind

[Chorus]
When you row another person across the river
Yeah, that’s how life works, yeah, that’s how life works
Two hands on the oars, same song, same shiver
Yeah, that’s how life works, yeah, that’s how life works

[Bridge]
You don’t do it for the credit or the name
You don’t even know you’re gaining when you gain
Somewhere between the giving and the work
You get there too - yeah, that’s how life works

[Interlude chanting]
Whoa-oh-oh, oh, that’s how life works
That’s how life works

[Final chorus]
When you row another person across the river
Yeah, that’s how life works, yeah, that’s how life works
Two hands on the oars, same song, same shiver
Yeah, that’s how life works, yeah, that’s how life works

[Outro – fading chants]
Whoa-oh-oh, oh, that’s how life works
Whoa-oh-oh, oh, that’s how life works
