Hi, I'm John

I'm from Troy, Tn . I have a lovely wife and 2 beautiful growing girls, and I have pretty wicked A.D.D. The only upside is that writing is the only thing that ever really impassioned me ad a kid, and i guess it still does.

I write everything about literally everything. If i had to pick a genre i guess it would be blues, country, pop-rock, and i used to do industrial and metal when i was younger. I don't know what sparked the change, maybe i looked out a window and realized where i lived?..

Glynda said i should introduce myself, and there ya have it. Already making a few friends around here, nice people. Love the Jpf website and look forward to helping out just as u guys have helped me. thanks a heap.

I'm best known as Taggy Lee. I've been playing music and recording with friends for more than 40 years but have only been sharing publicly for the last year.

I've learned more in the last year than in the previous 40 so I'd like to keep sharing and helping where I can.

I know some of the people here and recognize several more. I hope I have something to contribute.

Hi,

I'm Raggy, musician/songwriter from Malaysia ...land of hot beaches and cold beer smile

Thanks for letting me join this forum, I'm starting work on a new album (my 2nd) and just completed converting my bedroom into a recording studio...good fun but I didn't realize it would mean I'd get thrown out to sleep in a small room frown

I'm hoping I can get comments (good or bad, as long as it's honest I can even take brutal) and advice on my songs.

I'd also be happy to collaborate with others, I'm mainly a guitarist/singer but can also play bass and some drums/percussion.

cheers,

Raggy

Hello JPF Community,

My name is Mike Baluja (Ba-loo-ha). I'm a 55 year old songwriter from Tampa, FL. I've been an inactive member of JPF for about 10 years now, but I've always enjoyed reading the newsletters when I could. I figured that now's as good a time as any to start building a few new relationships with those who share my passion for music. I hope to learn a few things here and to gain some inspiration and insight from listening to the words and sounds of others. If any of you would like to get a taste of what I do, feel free to google me by my last name. I'm all over the web...youtube, soundcloud, facebook, reverbnation, etc. Some of my material is recorded with just an acoustic guitar and vocals, while other recordings include a fuller production of computer generated music (loops, beats, and samples). My writing is pretty staight forward...lyrics and themes are based on love, life, loss, and other personal experiences and observations. More recently, I've written some topical songs, along with some songs about the city of Tampa and the people and places that are near and dear to me.

Hi guys,

Thomas James here, I'm a new member and new to the forum scene... I've been writing songs on and off for the past few years and now finally want to do something about it... take things to the next level... the problem is I don't know what the next level is... lol :-) was wondering if anyone had any advice for me... what do i do next or where do i turn...

I'm new to Calgary, I like most genres of music and would love to check out some live music venues, does anybody know of good places to check out in the area...

Hi Thomas,

Welcome to JPF. If you have specific questions, the general board is a good place to ask. You can also post links to your music if you have it recorded, or you can post lyrics for feedback and you can offer some yourself on other people's work.

I am not an expert on Calgary, but ask it as a question on the general board and folks may have some suggestions for you.

See you around,

Brian

Hi David, welcome to JPF! You're free to use Tolu or Michael, whichever you wish. Where does your name originate from?

We look forward to having another UK member. Where do you live there? We've done JPF Roadtrip tours there and really enjoyed it, especially Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Welcome Muzikguy,

Good to have you join us. May I suggest you consider using your real name or at least part of it so we can get to know you, rather than a generic screen persona? There have actually been many other anonymous folks with very similar names over the years and you'll likely find folks more willing to work with someone they can get to know on a real first name basis.

Good luck!

Hello Everyone,
My name is Charles Joseph. I have been in a dry gully for some time now. Ideas come and go. When I sit down to write the idea for the song it gets jumbled up like when someone tries to talk about their dream.I can't seem to put the puzzle together. But when I am busy during the day or just waking up I sing a verse or two, sometimes even the chorus. I have been told every one goes through a dry period. Does anybody have an idea of how to over-come this dry spell? cool

Howdy Ya'll,

My name is Adam Lambert. I am not the famous guy from American Idol. I am the older, uglier, countrified, redneck, married, songwriting guy named Adam Lambert. Due to the name conflict, I go by A.L.Lambert. After walking away from the music scene (but not music) nearly two decades ago in search of a more stable life (which I found), I have finally reached the point where I’ve got a the time and the inclination to share my music outside of my friends and family again. I’m not exactly looking to start a career as a performing musician again, but I am doing some local shows now and then in north Idaho/west Washington, and doing the Facebook/ReverbNation/etc thing. I'd also be open to the idea of co-writing and/or otherwise having someone else (hopefully with better performing skills than mine) recording/performing some of my stuff.

Anyhoo, that's where I'm coming from, music-wise.

Thanks,
A.L.Lambert

hi charles. sounds like you're singing without writing down your ideas??? hard to keep things sorted out if you don't write them down. once you write down your chorus or refrain line or whatever, you need to write something that sort of goes with it for your next line...maybe a rhyme or similar rhythm. Are you playing along on an instrument (guitar/piano/accordion, etc.?) Most songwriters say that the song doesn't become anything without the arrangement. A lot of people feel the song is a combination of the vocal melody and the accompaniment. Do you play an instrument?

oh yah. i'm a professional musician and write songs now and then. looking forward to getting feedback on a few of my efforts from real people. At an occasional open mic where I've performed some of my stuff, I get comments like, "that's avant garde" but that whole thing of figuring out who you are and what you do is a little tricky.

Hi there,
I've just returned after quite some time away from JPfolks.
As a lyricist, writing in a range of genres, I'm always looking for good songwriting partners, to put some melodies and hopefully vocals to my lyrics.
I'm willing to try writing to melodies as well, but would ideally like to work with some of the lyrics I already have.
Please have a look at my lyrics blogsite at:
http://the-write-page.blogspot.com to get an idea of the styles I cover. All feedback, ideas and suggestions most welcome.

I write lyrics in a range of genres, Pop, Rock, Ballad, country,World,Inspirational plus.
I'm looking for composers/songwriters to collaborate with on these, and other ideas, to produce songs with real commercial appeal.
Full info. and a range of lyrics can be found at:

Hello!
I would just like a place to post lyrics. The email I received stated - If you are a lyricist, this is the place to be! You can find the Lyrics Board by clicking the "Boards" link on the home page. Register on the message board to start posting, it's Free! http://www.jpfolks.com/forum/ubbthreads.php.
However, I do not see "Boards" link on the home page.
Help please!
Thank you!

Stacy,

First, welcome. Second, you are on the board right now. Scroll down to where it says Lyric Feedback, Lyric Feedback 2 and Lyric Feedback 3. Click the link, read some example posts (just as you clicked on this one) and perhaps make some comments (in the same way you did above) on your thoughts or critique of those lyrics. It's a matter of give and take. So the more you offer others feedback, the more you will receive as well. Once you see how it works, then click on the top left corner the box that says "New Topic" and it will open a new empty page where you can follow the same format others do by placing the title of your lyric in the subject field and then post your lyric and any other pertinent info you wish and ask for feedback. It's helpful if you give a little background on yourself and what you are looking for (if you want hard core honesty, say so but keep in mind you'll get it), otherwise you'll likely get friendly thoughts or posting of support and a warm welcome as you acclimate and get involved.

Hello everyone, my name is Bryan Williamson. I joined a few days ago. It's great to see so many writers and musicians all together in one place. I look forward to reading and sharing as time allows. Just wish there were more hours in the day.

I'm a transplant to the KY area from the DC suburbs. Used to write lyrics for friends in a basement band and after years and time have separated me from writing I finally got back to it. I am working on a third manuscript and have script #2 in production for publication, hopefully in mid 2013.

Thanks for the opportunity to share and get feedback. I can really feel the energy on ever forum.

Hi Bryan,

We have some screenwriters around here and welcome more! Hunt down Midnite Bob who has been busy doing that and sharing his exploits. Feel free to do the same. My goal as a child wasn't even about music, it was to be a screenwriter... = )

Hi everyone,

My name is Alisha from London, England (UK). I'm a singer/songwriter, but I am currently focusing on building a songwriting career.
I'm looking to receive critiques from others, and pitch my music to artist's working on projects, publishers and record labels.

Hey Alisha, I sampled a couple of your tunes at soundcloud. If you want to be a working songwriter, co-write with artists in your area. It seems to be the best way to get things done -- write with an artist! You current songs have a lot of "vocal gymnastics" -- at least you know the type of artists that you need to hook up with.

Good luck with your work, it sounds like you know what you want to do.

Hi Alisha,

Welcome to JPF! It seems we're getting a lot of new members from the UK. Hopefully we'll get to meet next time we do a JPF tour there!

I'm new here and look forward to meeting creative kindred spirits! I write a lot of songs and am interested in places to submit them free of charges. Also welcome reviews and constructive criticism and am willing to give my opinion of your offerings. The problem with writing a lot of material is that it's difficult to have really good recordings of everything. So, I'm a little torn there. I would think a publisher or producer could recognize a song they'd be interested in from a rough demo but maybe that's wishful thinking. I can judge from live audiences what songs work the best for me but I'm convinced that they won't necessarily know good writing from, well, not so good.

Hi Dave,

Welcome to JPF. Jump right in and enjoy. Should you want to change to your real name (since you put in above) just request a Display Name change and I'll approve it. It makes folks more comfortable when dealing with people with real names. Lots of trolls come and go under anonymous names so folks are often hesitant to warm up to made up names. You'll notice on the left the column of top posters and see most of the top ones use their real name, or at least part of it. (and I think we know the full real name of all the top 100 people or so).

See you around, don't hesitate to ask questions if/when needed.
