This is a rough second quickie fawm write, sparked by memry's.
Alcoholism touches so many lives, my mom stopped cold turkey the day she found Jesus and has never looked back. She'd drank for 20 years.. I was 26 years old and she was a grandma of 2 at the time. She didn't need detox, all she needed Jesus. I wrote this song about a couple with alcohol issues, but my family's growin' up was on my mind! Yea, she grew up with me like a sister cause I was raisin' my little brother at the time with my own kids. He's 5 years older than my oldest son, 41 years old and dyin' from health problems and addiction! He's loosin', He needs prayer! I guess I'm tryin' to write about hope!
Jesus And Cold Turkey (c) 2012 Geneva Griffin Verse 1 I burned her trust, life was a livin' hell, Never meant to hurt us, tried to fool more than myself, Begged her to stay, promised her I'd stop, She said it'd be a cold day, as she walked off.. Verse 2 I called her up, started with small talk, Told her I loved her, before that bottle spoke up, Said stop your poutin', when'ya commin' home, She took no time to say, when it freezes over.. Bridge I sank deeper into the suds before I said Jesus.. Then it took no time before he come to heal us.. Chorus Jesus and Cold Turkey brought me through, He loves me.. the way I try and love you, Jesus and Cold Turkey gave me back my life.... Gonna be a hell of a ride.. for the rest of our lives.. Cause this lyin' snake is sober.. Shed his skin.... .....Hell has frozen over.... Verse 3 I'd sank deeper, in the bottle for a while, It didn't drown my feelin' s she was missin' in my life, So I gave it to Jesus, let all my dreams go, Guess he devised a plan, cause I stopped cold..

Hi Geneva,
This appeared worth working on so I started, but got immediately stymied in verse one so, being totally lost I had to conclude that structurally the "setup" had failed at least from my perspective.
I burned her trust, life was a livin' hell, (her trust in you?) Never meant to hurt us, tried to fool more than myself, (very confusing, who's doing the hurting and who's fooling)
Begged her to stay, promised her I'd stop, (I thought SHE had the problem (?) She said it'd be a cold day, as she walked off.
There's not enough time in the delivery of a song for a listener to have to figure out the meaning and direction of the words.
Terry

Geneva, Like Terry, It took time to sort out who, and when. The chorus is fine, maybe "I burned her trust, made her life hell" ( living hell if it fits the music.) but replace the "hell" describing ride; it has no power there.
excellent how you fit the parts of "when hell freezes over" and references all through the song.

Great title. I think John Lennon had a song called Cold Turkey. My problem is that everytime I start talking about Jesus, it causes me to drink even more.

"If someone is truly a jerk, or truly is not deserving of any positive reply from you, polite indifference is the best response you can give. Do not insult. Do not slam. Do not follow the urge to be nasty. Simply be politely indifferent." –Brian Austin Whitney
