Hi folks.

My name is Rob Ash. I'm a retired former professional illustrator/designer who's been a musician for more than 30 years. I did an almost 4 year run in the mid to late 80's making a living in a circuit metal band. I mostly consider myself a serious amateur musician. Everything I know is self taught. so keep it light on the theory if we chat...:)

I'm here to hopefully form new collaborations and to get my stuff critiqued. I'm a member of several other sites where you can get your music critiqued, and I always comment on other people's songs on about a 5 or 6 to 1 ratio when I post on of mine. I don;t have an ego problem, and take criticism very well. Praise is nice, but serious, thoughtful comments on my songs means much more to me. I try to offer the same when I comment on the work of others.

Glad to be here, and I hope my experiences here are as positive and helpful as they have been on similar sites.

Hello Everyone!

My name is David Stuckey, from way down south in Cajun Country, Maurice Louisiana. Ive been on here a few times, but only to find songs for a project I am doing for a friend. Found some great songs, and am in the process of getting back with all those who submitted songs to work out the mechanical details. Love the site, especially since I couldnt write lyrics to "save my life." I have a fairly well outfitted home/semi professional studio, and I mainly do work for singers with no bands. I love to put other peoples thoughts to music. I do record full bands also, but its just not as fun as the composition is. I do a lot of stuff for free, trying to help out up and coming singers. To date I have done 4 full length CD's for free, and a lot of singles and demos. I'd love to one day make a living at this, but I have a hard time with the business side of things. So, if any of you need some tracks done, give me a hollar. Would love to start collaborating with you guys on some killer songs. Well, Ive rambled on enough, Good Day!!

Welcome to JPF David. I would strongly suggest you consider changing your display name to your actual name, especially if you want to build trust with people here in general. They want to deal with real people, not anonymous user names and since you're willing to share your name anyway, it may really help you get more folks to engage with you.

Good luck!

Thanks for the welcome and the advice. I tried to change my screen name, but I don't think it took. I did it twice. May have to wait until I get home, doing this from work, and the computer is a mobile PC, and its pretty slow.

Dear Helping Hands and other Folks, I'm returning to Jpfolks after a long time without elec. or steady computer access. I'm enjoying reviewing your lyrics and melodies but need help... How do I turn down the sound on the links before I get there? I am either blasting my ears or waking up the household (in my favorite time for music, middle of the night.) I do have the computer itself turned almost to mute. Pam

Hey Pamela,
Welcome back. On your Sound Question. You may have a Volume Control on you Monitor as well as on the Key Board as well as the control with the Mouse. If so you can adjust it for a more normal level. When my Grandaughter uses my Computer she turns the sound control on the Moniter all the way down and I am going nuts when I want to listen to somethng before I figure it out. Now no wisecracks from the audance!

Thanks Ray, I was only using the volume control on the monitor, now I'll try to learn where the system is hiding another one. And please, no wisecracks for me also: I'm already laughing. Pam

Hello JPF!!

I have this undying urge to write songs and perform. At least write! My last endeavor ended up with me losing friends because of our band broke up due to artistic differences, feelings got hurt and drama ensued. I have lost 2 friends I'd known for 10 years because of this. So I kinda stayed away from this and focused on other things. But I ain't gettin' any younger and it really doesn't make sense to stay away from what I love, I just won't start a band (with or without friends)! ha.

When I hear tunes on the radio, words automatically come to me. Or certain phrases or ideas come to mind and I write from there. So today, I was thinking, maybe I can find music that I like that need lyrics... and I found this site, which I liked the most. Maybe someone can guide me? Is what I have in mind crazy? I am not really sure how this thing works. I wanna be Savvy!

Thanks!!
Michi

Hey all. I'm new to the forums here, so here's my introduction...

My name is Zach, and I'm from the Mid-Michigan area. I currently live in Traverse City (North-west Lower Peninsula of MI) and let me tell you the job market and music scene leave a lot to be desired. Not to speak against all of the good people I have met while being up here, but I want to get out of Michigan!

The greater-Seattle area is one place I am looking at now, for a few reasons (I reserve the right to keep a few secrets wink but one of them being that I want to explore the Seattle/Pacific-Northwest music scenes.

I could be ready to move as early as Mid-March... have already registered with South Seattle Community College to possibly take classes beginning in April.

Anyways, I am a singer/songwriter... have been teaching myself how to play music since 2002 and have loved (almost) every minute of it. Bob Dylan has greatly influenced my habits since about 2007 or so, but I have lots of influences and lots of ideas. I'm not just limiting myself to an acoustic set with a harmonica... I would prefer to branch out and get myself into a few different kinds of projects.

Well I think that's enough for now... don't want to hog up all the real-estate!

If you have EVER known what it's like to want to move to a new place and meet new people and do everything that comes with "starting a new life" please contact me and don't be afraid to find me on Facebook (link below)! If I do make this move, it may or may not be alone. ESPECIALLY if I come out there alone, I will need to have some contacts made! Help me out if you are so inclined, and I will greatly appreciate the kindness! Thanks and Happy New Year to everyone!

Hi Zach,

Welcome to JPF. We used to have a Seattle chapter, but it's inactive at the moment. Scott Andrew is a very knowledgeable guy from there who posts here and has a great blog with lots of info. He's really talented as well. Look him up and introduce yourself and visit his website (not sure at the moment if it's his name... let me check...yup.. it's www.scottandrew.com so take a look.

I will say that moving to a "music" city won't jump start things for you, only YOU can do that with hard work, talent and a relentless pursuit that is so persistent that you eventually break through. There's lots of ways to achieve more success in what you do, so stick around here and we'll be happy to help you out!

Michi,

Well, you've come to the right place with friendly people willing to help you out. All you have to be is polite, friendly, enthusiastic and make sure you give more than you take (like for example offering feedback to 10 other people for each lyric you post yourself asking for feedback for example). You can jump right into the mp3 or lyric feedback boards and tell folks what you think about their work. Try to offer examples of what you are talking about and suggestions on how to improve it or what you like about it. Don't offer false praise but don't be rude either. Just be honest and helpful and you'll find people here (and usually everywhere for that matter) will be only so happy to help you in return. You can also ask me anytime you have a question or post on our Mentor board or the General board any questions or thoughts you have on a topic can be posted anywhere!

Have fun and welcome to JPF!

Brian

Brian,

Thanks a lot for the warm welcome! I totally agree about it being ME who will have to do the work to make connections and be successful in a new place like Seattle.

Also, thanks for posting the link about Scott Andrew. I just opened his site in a new tab and will proceed to check it out as soon as I click the submit button below!

Take it easy & See you around the boards and maybe elsewhere someday!

Hey guys!

This site looks awesome and i'm excited to be part of the JPF community.

My name is Heidi Smith and I'm from Harrisonburg, Virginia. I'm finishing up my last semester of college and figuring out where to go from here.

I've been writing music as a hobby (actually out of necessity) for about four years now, but am just now gaining enough confidence to actually present my work to others. I'm a writing major, but songwriting is my real passion.

I hope to find like-minded writers here, and gain some insight, advice, and inspiration.

Cheers!

Hi folks.

My name is Colin Ferguson, I'm a folk singer up in Toronto, Canada or at least I'm trying to be.

I've been writing songs for a couple years now, but I've only just started gigging them live, only two shows so far. But they've gone relatively well, so I can't complain.

I'm hoping to meet some like minded people here and talk shop.

Cheers!

Hi Folks,

Just checking in for the first time. I'm a singer songwriter (that's what I tell myself) in Prince Edward Island (Canada), home of Anne of Green Gables, lobster and the most wonderful beaches in Eastern Canada ... when they're not covered in ice and snow. Here's a recent video my son posted on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqxz61OGVe0. Not my finest hour but it'll do 'til Hollywood calls.

Cheers,

Hi everybody. I'm a new member here as of yesterday and I've already found plenty here to dig into. Everyone seems so sincere and there is a great comradery. I've been much too secluded as a songwriter. I started writing songs before I could actually write on paper. I used to just memorize the lyrics and melodies. Then I learned to write and started indexing them, then eventually typing them. Now 32, my once dreams of rock-stardom are far removed from what I want from life now.

I've gigged as a professional musician mostly in a GB band but have slowed it down because my heart isn't there. Got engaged to my guitarist and we've set up a home studio in rural Maine. We released one original album with a band and the group broke up before the release.

I'm a psychologist and a freelance writer. I write in many genres and have a lot of material that I've been keeping to myself. I had a recent health-scare that made me realize I should be doing what I love and putting my music out into the world rather than sitting on it. I'm interested in any avenue through which I can move songs and people. I've already come across friendly and wise folks on this site and some very helpful information. Not to mention some amazing songs I almost certainly wouldn't have had the pleasure of hearing elsewhere.

Looking forward to taking part.

Here is a no-budget music video I made. The track could be remastered.

Welcome Jaye,

Welcome to JPF! We look forward to your involvement and as a freelance writer, maybe one day you can do some volunteer work for the community with those skills should you desire!

Hi Paul,

That's an area of Canada we haven't visited yet on a JPF Roadtrip but we've wanted to get over to far Eastern Canada for a while now. Looking forward to having you involved!

Hi everyone! My name is Kee. I'm a lyric writer. I don't sing, don't play any instruments, and am not good with melody- only words. I haven't been writing lyrics that long, but I've gotten some good feedback and was told by a few people that I really need to collaborate with someone to do anything with the lyrics. Most of the songs I write are country, at least they are in my mind when I'm writing them. Most are probably ballads and could actually be in any genre. I'd love to find someone who could put music and melody to my words.

I am new too and glad to have found this group. I am mainly a Christian writer and have posted some lyrics. I play the piano, could probably write some music, just don't have a lot of free time. I am not a singer! If I sang all the neighborhood dogs would start to howl! Let me know what you think about my lyrics.

Hi All,

My name is Johnny and I am from Southern NH. I am a singer/ songwriter/ composer. I guess you could call me a One-Man-Band. However, I don't play any instruments nor can I read music. I use a program to create my soundtracks. I write in several genres including Country, Rock, Punk Rock, Pop Rock and Rap.

I hope you like what you hear and please comment back. I have a profile at reverbnation http://www.reverbnation.com/johnnystraws and of course my Facebook Bandpage https://www.facebook.com/pages/Johnny-Straws/218158914872464?ref=tn_tnmn

I hope you like what you hear and thank you for listening.

Hello! Debbie Story, aka MzStory here, from the cornfields of Illinois, near Iowa and Quad Cities. Posing the musical question: Is there life in the hinterlands? I sing, arrange and compose, do some home recording, and teach piano and voice with a (hopefully) fresh approach. Look forward to meeting folks and sharing ideas!

Hello! I'm Sabrina, a homeschooling single mom, music lover, and aspiring freelance writer. I love writing, especially song lyrics and often have a melody to accompany, but can't write music. So, having written my first song at 7 yrs old, I have memorized a multitude of melodies over the years. I recently began sharing my lyrics with family and friends, and received a positive response (of course) so feel encouraged to let others in the know read and give their response. I'm looking forward to learning more about making music!

Hi, I'm Jackie and I should have done this a long time ago. I've been writing songs many years but haven't been doing the necessary networking so I haven't gotten far. I am not a performer so I need to learn all I can about getting my songs to the right people.
I was a sheet music arranger for 25 years where I transcribed hit songs and adapted them for piano/vocal music sold in stores. That was great for helping me learn what makes a hit song.

Hey everybody,
My name is Kevin and I am in a hip/hop band called indiVigilante. The band is located on the west coast of Georgia, a very desolate place when it comes to hip hop culture. I am excited about becoming a forum member and I am looking forward to meeting some people that share similar interests and experiences when it comes to the music world. Much love
