Glyn,
I hope your kids like your songs better than mine do for my songs. They could care less. Even gave my son a guitar for Christmas. Was one of my favorite guitars too. He never got it out of the case and then GAVE IT BACK! Kids never care about anything until we are long dead. I buried my Grandmother today and I know, none of us appreciate what we have till it's gone. Kind of a tradition. We didn't care about what our parents had done till it was too late, they didn't appreciate their parents, and so forth and so on.
MAB
Marc,
I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother, this makes me remember back about my grandparents, my mom died many years before my grandparents did and it was hard to let go, but of course we have no choice, my grandfather was always the father figure in my life, he and my grandmother worked in the cottom mill and I never once heard them argue with each other, but I do remember the love they had for each other and this they both taught us, and I rembember my grandfather ( we called them ma and pa) he told me the same thing you said about how kids don't respect their parents are believe they're doing the best for the kids...just wanted to say that..
But, also to let you know you're in my prayers, sorry just saw this..
always, glyn

Thanks Glyn,
She was as great lady. Made it to 97 and really had a full life. Yesterday I performed three songs. Two gospel songs and one Broadway show tune, called "Oh What a Beautiful Morning" from the musical Oklahoma, that I was the lead in High school. It was really a cool time and tied in with the Preacher's message of the "Lord is my Shepard" from Psalms.
Very nice to be able to do. Thanks for mentioning it. MAB

Marc,
I agree with Glyn's sentiments, and apologize for not offering condolences earlier...It sounds like she led a life well-lived. I spent all my vacation time for three years traveling back to Michigan to just hang with my father as he was wrappin gthings up. I heard things from him that I'd had no idea he'd been through...And some of my fondest memories of when I was younger were dropping in at my grandmother's house and letting her feed me for hours while we talked about nothing of any importance.
Cherish each moment, and each person, while you have 'em...

Marc,
I played Ali Hakem in Oklahoma.. I wonder if between us all we could put together an entire cast? = )
Sorry for your loss. When someone makes it to 97 I think it's really a cause for celebration of an amazing life. I can't even imagine another 50 years on earth and the changes I'd see.

make it to 50. Ooops, I already have. Maybe 52 or 53..Oops, made that too. MAB MAN, you're old enough to be my dad. I'm 41! Hehe Condolences with your grand, Marc. 97 is unbelievable. I don't have anyone in my entire family three for 7 generations that made it that far! From silent movies to screaming guitars, don't say nothing has improved during her lifetime! (allthough, she might not agree with that) :-)

Sorry for your loss Marc. They don't make that model of grandmothers anymore. Yes, 97 is cause for celebration. Best, John

Marc, sorry to hear about this. It sounds like she had a wonderfully blessed life. I'd be proud to have a grandson like you. Maybe a little younger, though. Mike
You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash It's only music. -niteshift Mike Dunbar Music

Sorry to hear of your loss... It's been said if ya wanna live to a ripe ol' age, choose the right Grandparents...glad she left ya a Fine Legacy in the Years-Here-Department!

THanks everybody. Yes, My Grandmother was pretty cool. One of the things she told me was one time we were talking and she said "You know you come by your music talent honestly don't you?" I said "Sure." My Dad was a Gospel Quartet singer in the 50's and 60's and had his own television show. My Mother was always an Alto in every Church choir we ever went to. That is what I thought she was talking about.
She said "No. My first cousin was Jimmie Rodgers."
Jimmie Rodgers is considered the Father of Country music. He was from Meridian Miss. as was she. She told me of going to family gatherings and hearing him play on a front porch of one of the relatives. (She also said he was drunk. She never liked that part.)
So I come from a long line of these goofs that some call singers. She was a pretty special lady.
As for long life, all my Grandparents were in their mid 90's when they died. So you guys might have me around for a long time.
MAB
PS: Now my entire family are sending me "requests" to do at their funerals. I guess I have a new gig that will last for a while. LOL!

Well, it has to be comforting for them to know that part of her is alive and well in you Marc. So that's a gig that will give a lot of people hope in a time of sadness.

My condolences as well... missed this earlier. God Bless you and your family. I've had the "please sing at my funeral" request line too, every time I sing at one... yeah... but those are typically NOT the gigs I really want to have to schedule. She sounds like she led a wonderful life well-lived and well-celebrated and honored here. Hugs, Linda

Marc, I missed this earlier too, my condolences...at 97 she was finally ready for heaven! Cars, The Great Depression, Wars, TV, Rock-n-Roll, A man on the moon, Computers, Cell phones! It could have been those damn cell phones that made her move on ...lost my grand at 87 and just thinking of her and the way she was with everyone continues to make me a better person. Be well, make today a great day!
