I didn't hear the original version, but I like this song a lot as is. Already heard it several times now and there's nothing I would change...!

Hi Scott,

I remember this song.
This might be yor best work , how can ya tell, ya got got SO much good stuff.
I vote to KEEP the way you say ARIZONA.
I can't imagine changing it.
Your performance was so cool.

and the lyrics-----well, now it's back to the drawing board for me to learn how to write THIS good.
You've touched a lot of hearts with this great piece of work.

You're a class act in MANY ways.

Well Scott...

Coming in late means everyone else has already said everything I could ever think of to say. Will settle for a simple "Very, very good...I loved it!" Sweet production!

Hi Scott,

I think this song so wonderfully tells the man's story with such pride and reflection that you can't help but be moved by it. A lot of great lines that say more than what they "say"....just great writing!

Really enjoyed it!

Kristi

if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What a man can be,
he must be. -- Abraham Maslow, American Psychologist

Yeah, I'm trying to identify some organizations that might consider using it. Tried a couple with no luck yet. We'll see... smile

I'm pleased with it - suspect I'll never do anything better. But I'll keep my nose to the grindstone as long as the muse makes an appearance now and then smile

Hi Scott. What a great song. So very very moving and descriptive in every sense or the word..

10 out of 10...

I am so glad that you said up in the posts that you don't have many more like this, otherwise I would give up writing altogether and just listen.

God Bless Roy

Hey Roy:

If that was the case, and I know it isn't, then I'd also glad I don't have any more like this smile

10 out of 10 - wow - thanks!

Scott

Thanks Bob - yes is a pretty big difference. And he did it just working from the stereo track. Was a nice surprise!

Very cool of you Jan - thanks again!

Hey Scott,

I remember this song. Can't remember the previous audio, but it's sounding great !

I remember the song, as a good mate of mine lives in Hawaii, and along with others, speaks of the strange reverence of the monument when you visit it. And you've captured that perfectly, with honesty and dignity.

Also, I had an uncle that was a Lancaster bomber pilot for the RAF in WW2. He didn't say much about it, but you could see an almost guilt that he survived and others didn't. ( He flew, from memory, 29 missions, where you weren't supposed to come back, on average, after 22 )

So, through those 2 things, I remebered the song. Great job, you captured the whole feeling, without being morose, really well.

cheers, niteshift

Thanks Nite:

In fact it was you that made me re-sing this. When I originally posted it you said something like it sounded like I had the vocal buried. Which was because I did... grin

So thanks for that!

Those bomber pilots were something else. I know a man who was a navigator on one of those planes. Flew about the same number of missions as your uncle. Amazing they could do it once, let alone twenty-some times....

Appreciate the listen. Jan really improved the sound on this...

Hi Scott,

Great job as usual. I had seen a documentary or special on this maybe PBS or history channel where it talked about how the Airzona is leaking fuel on a daily basis (almost like she's shedding tears) but anyway it was/is causing a real environmental threat to the underwater life, etc so they are discussing what steps need to be taken to address the problem.

I think it's great to keep history alive especially through a song. We have a couple Pearl Harbor movies and it's such a shocker when the guys are on deck in the early am raising the flag and having their little ceremony and out of no where comes the enemy planes and they are so caught off guard thinking initially they were US planes.

My only thought was and it might be need to just see if it works, would be at your bridge/refrain part try singing the song without pauses between the lines and just have each line go right into the other. You have pauses throughout the whole rest of the song and this would speed up that part but also give it more contrast there to set it apart more as a bridge.

Thanks for sharing and caring enough about the subject to write about it. (and write well)

Best,
Lynn smile

Scott, you are probably sick of replying on this one, my
apologies, I just had to comment, I listened a couple of
weeks back but didn't get the chance to say how much I
liked it and it's as good as I remembered, real good,

Tony.

Hi Lynn:

Thanks! Yeah, you can see the oil sheen at the memorial.

I teach an elective class in mathematical modeling of pollutants in the environment. Students have to do a project where they pick a scenario and model it to see the extent of contamination. A few years ago, one of the groups chose to study the oil leaking from the Arizona. Was heartening to see the interest in history among a bunch of 20 year olds. smile

I'm not hearing the bridge without pauses but I'll get the guitar out later and experiment a bit so see if I can hear what you mean.

Thanks Lynn!

Scott

Ha - the only time I'd be in a class with Gordon Lightfoot would be if he was teaching it and I was a student... smile

Thanks you very much for that, Colin!

Scott...how on earth did I miss the gem?

You are a wordsmith...pure and simple. This is wonderful man.

The last verse...telling the brothers how it felt to do these things..wow....I have to let my mom hear this when she comes over tonight..She has been to Pearl Harbor...and it made her cry.

now I have chills..

thank you for sharing this gem with us..and others need to hear this!

Kim

Thanks so much, Kim - I'm exploring a couple different tracks to getting it heard.

Oh and Thank You, and Jan, for making this chorus sing as proud as a Military Hymn - Honor to whom Honor is Due.

Hi Randy:

I've always thought of my lyric writing as being pretty literal - would love to write more poetically but I just don't seem to be wired that way. So I was heartened to see that the song apparently touched you more at an emotional level than an intellectual one - makes me think I might be making some progress after all.

Thank-you for that smile
