Flooding in LOUISIANA sparked this song!
BIG DREAM Mild Re-Write ©2009 Mackie Humphries
V1 We both grew up down in Louisiana Got married there on borrowed time Somewhere between Baton Rouge 'n New Orleans We set out to find our BIG DREAM.
PRE CH Now, we live our lives seeking FORTUNE AND FAME But both are illusive things fleeting through our minds FIDDLE RIDE...
CH Those big dreams are only Images scattered through time It's where we never feel the heart-ache or pain So when it's all over no one can explain Why the BIG DREAM was only in our mind.
V2 We could've been dancers on the Cajun Queen Or could've been stars on the Silver Screen In our mind we could have been anything But we never found our BIG DREAM!
FIDDLE RIDE...
CH Those big dreams are only Images scattered through time It's where we never feel the heart-ache or pain And when it's all over no one can explain Why the BIG DREAM was only in our mind.
TAG We're still looking for That BIG DREAM.....
Any and all comments welcomed!
Respectfully,
Mackie Humphries

Good Evenin' Bro Mackie!
This is one I suspect SOUNDS great and complete WITH the Music rollin' along.
As Just-Words-on-a-Page, tho, I find myself wondering WHAT this Big Dream really WAS..tho! V2 DOES feed us some Hints. The Chorus, too, TRIES to explain...
But somehow...tho it pops Parameters to-&-fro...it falls a scosh-short on Nailing WHAT That (cussed) Big Dream WAS!!!
Which Bugs the Heck outta me, The Critic..heh!
Yet, like I prefaced, IF the Music's Real-Good, & some Seriously-Sexy-TexasDude Sings It...I doubt if most of The Audience'll worry about what I find is missing-a-bit.
Good Luck with it, Big Guy-Hug, Stan

Stan,
Thanks for your critical eye--I also think the song, needs a more penetrating and illustrating RE-WRITE. Changed the pre-ch --THE FORTUNE AND FAME -- we never found--TAG We're still looking OUR DREAM. Like YOU wanting the songs to bring the BIG BUCKS! Music is kicking like cajun "MY HAT"!
Respectfully,
Mackie Humphries (MJH)

There are many of us who are looking for our big dream and never quite seem to find it. And a lot of us have more than one. Good write, would love to hear what it sounds like when done.
Peace, Brian

Brian,
A cajun tune like Doug Kershaw's fiddle!
Re-read the focus is better now IMO.

Have always loved the beat of cajun music. Will be eager to hear the finished product when it arrives.

Brian,
I used to do this song at SONG WRITER'S nights--Always had a good audience clapping drum beat section.
I am still struggling with laying down songs on my Garage Band with the new MAC. Everything is mixed down to a mp4 (I don't know why). Most music servers want mp3--- Oh, well.
Respectfully,

Fortune and fame are some Big Dreams to chase Some find them and some don't The fiddle ride wants to take me there I can hear the banjos and the whole New Orleans scene
I like this lyric! Do have some music?

You have a lot of company with this lyric. It is a very good write, but besides that there are many of us on these boards, including me, still looking for the big dream. Alas many of us will no doubt go to our graves still in search of it. As far as music(and to some extend literature as well) is concerned, the mindset of commercial gluttony has succeeded in pushing the envelope further and further away. It would be great if one of my lyrics ends up being cut and becomes a hit, but would be mightily satisfied if it only becomes an extra on someone's CD, even if not a top hitmaker.
Peace, Brian

Jerry,
I have some rough Doug Kershaw music up tempo--I don't play fiddle--just a little guitar--Sometimes we can vicariously enjoy the dream, without ever really being there. The ratio of success is about 1 in 2000-5000, and getting worse. Why would you give it up, if you love dreaming--it's like a lottery of DREAMS--

Brian, Thanks!
Some never reap the fortunes they seek--but obtain a lifetime of fulfillment, in networking, meeting people, of like values and sentiments--at 71, I don't expect to have the BIG HIT--though it is never impossible!
An old saying: "YOU GOT TO KEEP ON KEEPING ON"!

Hi Mackie. When I have finished a song and in my mind its perfect, I always do a little dance around the floor with Helen. When we get a great comment on a forum we do the same. When someone takes the time to email me and ask to use our song at an event or something the same applys.
For us success (the dream) happens somehow every day and having had success in many things in my life, I know the feeling is fleeting. GREAT yes but always fleeting and we are always looking for the next magic moment. Thats my rant over hehe.
I love this song and will really keep watching for the final
GodBless

Roy and Helen.
Thanks for your comments--one of our freedoms is still the dream!
