they need 6 writers to help launch this thing-no money at first but you do get publicity and links to your site-plus a Press Pass to get you into bars and other events free.......and they say down the road there will be some money as well.......honest enough.......its legit and open to new writers-only gotta love the blues.......ground floor opportunity.....who knows where it may lead.......heres the link to the ad...................good luck! http://www.americanbluesblog.blogspot.com/Tom

Tom, that's very interesting. It wasn't clear how to apply to be a writer, but I'd like to. I think I've gotten space and deadline limitations down with my own blog. Question is whether I can write enough about the blues each week. Considering the shape the economy's in, and the number of writers I appear to know, I maybe could. Thanks.

Tom, I did send them something. I just got back a kind of generic reply that indicated they'd gotten my message but didn't suggest they'd read anything--or were going to. They may have already picked out who they want to have for writers. But thanks for the heads-up. It was an interesting exercise.

Thanks for the notice. I responded. We'll see how it goes. Pittsburgh is a huge blues town and I just participated in the International Blues Challenge. I love the blues! It could be a fit if they think so.
Thanks!

Thanks for the info here. I'm going to be a blogger offering the female perspective. The site should be up and running July 1. We are doing some test files now. I think there is still one slot available and guest writers will take one day a week. So, if you are interested do another hit of interest and see where it goes.
Thanks.

Monica, that is great! Congratulations!
Did they give any indication why they selected you? I had applied myself, but they didn't pick me (and didn't say why).

Joe,
I think they were focusing on location of the writers. Here is what they had out there:
The first 4 writers they had: There will be a writer from North, South, East and West. Simply: Chicago, Nashville, New York, and California.
5th writer ..and Sundays will be open each week for a guest writer - or for a noted musician himself.
And 2 at Large writers (takes it to 7): And one day of the week will be Photo day..Photos, Photos, Photos from our man in New York City.
And, I got it because of my female gender! They didn't have a girl. So I am the 2nd at large writer.
I can only tell you what they have decided upon and not how they decided. I hope this helps.
Monica

Monica, I think you're right. I did try to persuade them otherwise--I think with the Internet these days, location matters a lot less (and I am Out West, just not in L.A.)--but I gather it didn't work. Main thing that bothers me is just that they never bothered to respond.
I have read your column and it is good. I have the thing bookmarked. Lots of luck, and best wishes.

I guess I have a lot to learn. I never gave the plug!
I'm Going To Be a Blues Blogger! Everyone,
I have been invited to be one of seven blues bloggers. The first 4 writers on the website represent the following areas: North, South, East and West. Simply: Chicago, Nashville, New York, and California.
And one day of the week will be Photo day..Photos, Photos, Photos from our man in New York City. They really are quite awesome!
And, I got it because of my female gender! They didn't have a girlie girl, and, needed the female perspective.
The last writer for the week will be a guest writer - or for a noted musician himself.
Right now we are just in test mode of the site. We will be going live on July 5. But, if you want, I'll share with my friends my first blog. If anyone has anything they want to share or want me to consider, I'm here and you know where to find me. I'm really excited about this opportunity!

thanks everyone. Monica

Well, I sing the blues, write the blues, am feeling blue, and don't have no blue suede shoes. I reckon that's enough blue, but thanks for the tip Tom.
cheers, niteshift

Good Day to Everyone! First-I truly appreciate the post from this website for notifying me of the opportunity for wanna be writers for the blues blog. Thank you so much Tom! I did get chosen and I'm having a blast! Since the last time I posted here, I have interviewed or have scheduled the following artists-many of which I have yet to post on the blog. Shemekia Copeland Shannon Curfman Delta Highway (2009 nominee for Best New Artist Debut 2009) Roger Earl (Drummer for Foghat) Sue Foley (W.C. Handy Award for best contemporary female artist in 2002.) Jace Everett (Your Man/Josh Turner and Bad Things/Theme song of True Blood Shawn Kellerman Sonny Landreth(2009 Best Blues Guitarist) Little Joe McLerran ( 2009 IBC winner) Moreland & Arbuckle (Indie Acoustic Project's 2008 CD of the Year) New Riders of the Purple Sage Bobby Rush (2009 nominee for BB King Entertainer of the year and winner of the 2009 Soul Blues Artist of the Year) Gina Sicily (2008 Blues Music Awards nomination for "Best New Artist Debut) Saffire-Anne, Andra, Gaye((Gaye-2009 nominee for 2009 contemporary blues female artist of the year)(final tour this year as a group)) Savory Brown Chris Simmons (you've seen him as Leon Russell's guitarist) Chris Smither (writer of Love Me Like a Man) Walter Trout Robin Trower Teeny Tucker Kim Wilson of the Thunderbirds (2008 nominee for Contemporary Blues Male Artist of the Year and winner of the 2008 instrumentalist-harmonica) We're still tweeking the blog on the eye appeal thing. But, the content is coming along! Which leads me to why I am truly here. I am looking for guest writers for Saturdays on the blues. Content is open! If you have a proposal to write on, please let me know. I would love to put you in the lineup! It could be new artists, old artists, blues books, reviews, a great concert you attended....send me the proposal and let's talk! If someone wants to interview the JPF Blues winners and submit, that would be awesome! If you winners want to write something personal, please let me know. If you want to check out the blog here is the month summary. I will be changing the formatting of the blog pretty soon. So, look for a few changes on the look and feel. http://www.americanbluesblog.com/2009/08/pittsburgh-august-summary-and-whats.htmlThank you for reading and I hope I hear from some of you! Monica
