I currently use a BR-600, it's been great for me but I want to get my demos a better quality so was thinking of selling that on ebay and getting the next model up, the BR-900-CDV2 as that's about all my budget will go to. Only I don't want to buy it and find it's not that much better than the BR-600.
Also, I use a Shure 58 for vocals, but was thinking of selling that on ebay and getting a phantom powered condenser mic, any good suggestions for one about the same price as the Shure 58?
Thanks Lucian

My 2 cents would be that if the goal is to improve quality then your recorder isn't going to improve the quality as much as a new mic. Or new mic and a preamp if you don't currently have one. My guess is that the new version has some nice new features and bells and whistles but the sound quality isn't going to be far nicer. I think there are probably other areas that would improve overall quality more significantly than the recorder... just a guess though. I don't know your other gear.

Agree.... you only get out what you put in. The SM58 are supposed to be great mics but they are not my favourite either for live work or recording. I would try a pre amp. Presonus do a great range and a lot of people swear by their tube preamp and they are not too expensive. I cannot suggest which type of mic to use as a lot depends on the application or your voice, what is available and your budget. Best try out a few different mics and styles and then pick the one you like. I do not think an upgrade in recorder will enhance the quality of the recordings per say.

Thank you Pelliott and Big Jim, I will get a pre amp and mic first then, I asked a question about mics on the microphone forum.
Thanks Lucian
