Hi Folks,
I am working on a project and I want enlist your help in a group brainstorming session. I need to know the names and website link for every Music Organization that you can think of, large or small. They need to still be active. If you have a contact at one of them, include that as well, but the names and websites will be fine. I am both curious to see which ones you include AND to compile a working list for my project. Define music organization however you want.
Thanks in advance,
Brian

Brian, good idea. I'll give you a few starters. I defined "music organization" as an association of *people*--in other words, I didn't include any businesses, even if they were music publishers or song-contest-runners. I also ignored Big Boys like ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, and NSAI, because I was sure other folks more knowledgeable than I would mention 'em. So some of mine may be a tad obscure. I also included one festival (run by an organization) and one organziation that doesn't have a Website (but there's e-mail). Here goes: NORTHEAST OREGON FOLKLORE SOCIETY (NEOFS): www.neofs.us. Monthly concerts, also a monthly open mike & monthly all-afternoon bluegrass jam session. I'm a member. BLUE MT. OLD TIME FIDDLERS ASSN. (BMOTFA): No Website; contact their newsletter editor, Jennifer Reddington, at rosindust@coveoregon.com. Shows every weekend, all over E. Oregon, from March through September. I'm a member. SOUTHERN OREGON SONGWRITERS ASSN. (SOSA): www.sosazone.com. I may join this one if I get the S. Oregon job I've been angling for. Contact (just had to include this): grandpoobah@sosazone.com. CENTRAL OREGON SONGWRITERS ASSN. (COSA): http://cosa4u.tripod.com. Based in Bend, OR. PORTLAND SONGWRITERS ASSN. (PSA): www.portlandsongwriters.org. Based in Portland, OR. PORTLAND FOLK MUSIC SOCIETY (PFS): www.portlandfolkmusic.org. Ditto. CASCADE BLUES SOCIETY: www.cascadeblues.org. I know about these guys because they put on a festival last year in my home town. (It was a pretty high-priced festival, and I didn't go.) TILLAMOOK MUSIC FOUNDATION: www.moograss.com; contact Karla Boffitt at moograss@earthlink.net. These are the folks who put on the annual "Moograss" Bluegrass Festival in Tillamook, OR, with all proceeds going to the Tillamook H.S. music program. Online, I subscribe to (besides JPF, of course--I figured you obviously knew about that one): SOUNDCLICK: www.soundclick.com. I am one of a little over *2 million* people signed up here. SONGCAST: www.songcast.net. Relatively new OMD, and maybe an alternative to Soundclick; I haven't got my act together enough to get anything posted there. MUSESK: www.musesk.com.INDIEVIEWS: www.reyvarela.net.THE WRITER'S BLOCK: http://writersblock.proboards1.com.MUSE'S MUSE: www.musesmuse.comOf the above, Soundclick is where I post songs that have been recorded (and I'll tell the guys and gals at MusesK and Indieviews); JPF and (to a lesser extent) "the WB" are where I post lyrics for peer review. The Muse's Muse serves the same function, but I haven't posted lyrics there--them kids seem so danged young. They do run a lot of creativity-stimulating contests and challenges that I do try to participate in. As (and if) I think of more, I'll include them. Again, great idea. We need a compendium like this. Hi Folks,
I still invite more sites to be linked. I've visited all the sites linked so far. I am surprised so far to find so few actual "organizational" sites. There must be more out there?

I think many of mine have already been mentioned above. There's a VERY local musician's networking site here in MA: www.southshoremuse.comalso www.bostonbands.comthere's also: http://www.intermixx.com/not sure if anyone's mentioned them yet (more a member site than an organization) the most musician to musician local networking I see beyond JPF - is actually done on craigslist musician boards

CTGMusic.com - This is a general music community/organization, something like soundclick
OCRemix.org - Will be registered as a non-profit organization soon. Preserves the art of video game music & rearrangement and has a large community behind it

"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek
