Hi Folks, We're finishing up Reggae Music tonight which leaves us with about 2 dozen genres to finish in the song categories. Once we get the song genres done, we still have to verify the writers of all the potential nominees. With so many genres (quite a few not even in English) it's challenging to be sure that songs are original or written by members (or band members of members). What might be obvious to someone in Africa as a Cover probably will not be as obvious to us. Ethinic music of all types is especially hard because of the widely diverse arrangements. If anyone lives near Indianapolis and wants to help us pull the CD liner notes and match them to potential nominees, we'll be working on that next weekend.
Finished watching the Stephen King "Nightmares and Dreamscapes" tonight. There was one episode based around the concept of the song "Rock and Roll Heaven" co-written by my friend and JPF mentor (and fellow member) Alan O'Day. I asked him if they contacted him about using the title of his song or a line "you know they had a hell of a band" as part of the inspiration for the show. He said no. That was kind of disappointing. It was clearly inspired by his song.. but not only did he not get paid, he didn't even get an acknowledgement of any kind. Seems odd that that is fair or right.
I saw that JPF member Corina Brouder is officially on the Wild Card episode of America's Got Talent. We're wishing her good luck going forward! I also told Lis Lewis, the vocal coach for Rockstar to say hello to Storm Large and Ryan Star for us and let them know we're cheering them on.
Hope you all have a great weekend! I'll be working of course. But at least it's fun work!
Brian

Hey Brian, I haven't watched the N & M shows, but I remember reading the 'Rock & Roll Heaven' story...It was a great read...And was obviously inspired by the song, although with quite a different feel to it...I have to agree, that Alan should have at least been given some acknowledgement..Just because it's legal, that doesn't make it right!
