While we are still basking in the glow of a really successful night I thought I would post parts of an email I received from Boxcar Nancy's John Raido. He's got the right idea. Comments with a * and in parenthesis are from me for this post. Read on ..... ------------------------------------------------------ Busterman, thanks again for being a part of last night's show! everyone involved were such a friendly (and talented) bunch of people, i couldn't have hoped for a better time! we definitely have to do more shows together... i'm hoping to expand this circle of musicians over he next few months... like i've said time and time again, there's no music scene happening around here at all and, i really think we can get one going... last night was the second show i put together so far and it definitely appears as though we can create our own happenings, one gig at a time! *(We all need to be doing this. Not just the coordinators of JPF! If evey band started to put together nights like this we'd be swamped with gigs and fans)* i've just gotten so tired of how competitive some bands can be when you share a bill and, its so much more fulfilling to get together with other, like-minded people that wanna play in a friendlyatmosphere... definitely keep in touch with joe beets and lazlo,dunno if you had a chance to chat with him but, he's another great guy! *(Lazlo is from www.blowupradio.com and he promotes show among other things. Joe Beets was the soundman and he books bands for the bar. You need to be very friendly and nice to these kind of people, not only because they are great people but because they can help you with your goals!)* if we all keep on surrounding ourselves with positive people (like last night), we'll enjoy playing out more and more and, as you know, if the bands are having a great time, the great times will spread to the audiences fortunate enough to be a part of it! as i organize more nights like last night, i'm planning on expanding by bringing new bands into the fold... these things are definitely gonna pick up momentum as we do them more often! i'm gonna do another one at the underpass in june and i'm thinking you, the cucumbers, jim, and adding another band in i already have one i met last night! i'm sure we can squeeze another act in! as we play together more often, i'd really like to do some more sitting in on each other's sets as well (like the way deena sang with us and i played harp with them) next time we'll have to work something out with our bands getting up there together as well! the idea of doing a last waltz/ rolling thunder review type of thing has been my goal all along... it feels really satisfying to see the seeds finally being sown! oh yea, joe beets and jim both asked me how i found busterman... told them i'd been emailing you and, you had such a great attitude that i knew you'd fit in! my band and all of our friends really dug you guys! thanks again! peace john *(I think this email illustrates how this whole thing can and does work. Below, is my response to him with more ideas on the subject.) Hey John! Thanks for the pics. I agree with all of that. As much as I really love The Underpass, I also think it is important that we spread this idea around to other venues. Perhaps we can experiment with a club that is now doing coverbands and has a built in crowd. I figure if we offer to play for free or if there is usually a cover at the door, we could just take that. If we can prove a successful night like the other night we'll have a new venue and lots of new people to hear us. If we can maintain the built in crowd they already have we will be able to ask to get paid well too. With that in mind, I have some connections that we are going to work to that end. We'll see.
