I see a few success stories here, but could someone tell me how they found your songs? Some of my tracks would be great for Hallmark movies and the like if I knew how to submit them.
Thanks!

Hi Kay-Lynn, I started many years ago by joining TAXI: https://www.taxi.com/ . They were expensive to join, but they got me my first music publisher, Editors Choice. Not even sure if they’re still in business. Haven’t had any placements from them in over a decade. They placed my songs in several TV shows and TV Ads. I always joked about spreading my music around like manure. Hoping something will grow. At one time my music was in two dozen music libraries. About a half dozen of them got my music placed in film and TV. Botton-line, it’s kind of like rolling the dice. Never know what publisher will find you TV/film placements. A possibility for you would be Crucial Music: https://www.crucialmusic.com/ They’ll allow you to submit up to three songs. Crucial Music has gotten me some great placements. Many of the other TV/ film publishers have hundreds of thousands of tracks in their catalog. It is easy to get lost in all that. You may want to join Music Library Report: https://musiclibraryreport.com/ I think you can join for only a month (less expensive). Art Munson is the owner and one of the good guys. They’ll give you the scoop on hundreds of music publishers. Okay, now the bad news. With AI produced music and smaller companies selling out to larger ones, it’s much more difficult getting placed. I’ve been told many film music supervisors are using AI generated music – bummer. Keep pushing your music and looking for opportunities. All you need is one good publisher that believes in your music. Best, John

I had a few placements with Taxi on sync , but that was 10 years ago , Few forwards to majors , But interns listen to them , Never went anywhere. Taxi is still around , Im not sure if they get blasted with AI songs now . What was it , a cd wrapped up in lyrics back then , something like that. John hates AI songs , I don't blame him

I had a song played on the Today Show and I never sent it to them, don't know how they got hold of it, it was out there, recorded by a small indie artist, he never sent it to them, so once it is out into circulation, you never know where it will land. Anyway, it got me a nice royalty cheque in two quarters, they played it twice.

The market is huge; global. 'Content', the visual product, tv commercial advertising, dramas, talk shows, movies, situation comedies, all desire and demand musical accompaniment to their visual offerings, mood setting, scene setting, concept supporting music to help sell their 'Content'. Music Supervisors are looking for that music, with a budget to pay for it. How to get them to find your product? That is the question. The music libraries are in that 'business', accumulating musical product in their library, and getting a reputation with Music Supervisors as a good place to search. Fame as an artist would obviously attract attention, the hit Song on the charts. Just giving them a place to find you, Soundcloud, Soundclick, maybe Suno, your personal website, music libraries, is key. Some direct 'marketing' seeking to receive 'briefs', descriptions of what they are looking for, might give you an inside track to direct communication with the Music Supervisors. You see their names in the credits at the end of movies. If your product is Broadcast Ready, recorded at the right levels, ready to go right into Synchronization with their Content, and you own the Master Recording and you own the Copyright and your signature can seal the deal, you have a chance. One successful 'Contract' or Synchronization License becomes a credential. That Music Supervisor may come to you again, seeking music for their next project. Other Music Supervisors may hear your product from that 'use' and come to you too. Product. Recordings, out there, where they can be found, seems to be the simple advice. Seeking their attention, releasing Songs as an artist, all the ways you can think of that make it possible for them to find you.
There will always be another song to be written. Someone will write it. Why not you? www.garyeandrews.com

Look for movie/documentary projects that pick up themes and story lines of songs you have written.
Like Amelia Earhart. Your song Not Afraid To Fly. With story focus…mother/daughter relationship. If you find such a project…ID the music super and get a good demo ready, pitch it.

A good source for music supervisors, producers, directors, etc. is IMDb: https://www.imdb.com/ You can create an account for free and find some info. With a Pro Membership (I think around $300) you can find a lot of direct contact info (doesn't mean these contacts will respond). It's the #1 source for TV & film info. Good luck, John

I was a member of IMDb for several years. Good info. Gary mentioned "broadcast quality". I still haven't figured what that means - ha, ha. John

Well since you can broadcast anything anywhere I'm just going to assume all my songs are broadcast quality "according to me". smile Broadcast Quality is in the ears of the beholder. Broadcast quality is different than Industry Standard. Broadcast quality is not only the Bit and sample rate, but a supervisor’s determination on the instrumental and vocals. Whether they’re up to snuff. Opinion varies. The industry standard for TV/ film is 16 Bit/ 48,000 sample rate for WAV or AIFF file. Some may request 24 BIT. Although most only want a quality mp3 file for submitting purposes. Sounds a bit (no pun intended) complicated, but if a supervisor likes your music, all will be worked out. I think submitting a song to Crucial Music will be a good start for you. They have a tough review process: https://www.crucialmusic.com/page/artist_faq

Did you ever ask them how they found it? but that's amazing!! No is the short answer. I don't watch morning TV shows and I never knew there was a show by that name. I had to ask here on Just plain folks who or what this show was. They told me and couldn't believe I got played on that show which was watched by millions. At that point in my writing career, that was my most outstanding accomplishment. They even played in over in Australia where that show was aired.

Ok I will check it out, thanks so much! Keep in mind, Crucial Music doesn't accept AI generated songs. You'll have to check a box that AI hasn't been used in any way. Personally, I think AI generated music is destroying the music business. I wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole - ha, ha. Also, no matter how AI is appealing to you, it was built on stolen music. Best, John

Not sure what's so funny about it , oh well. They don't either No, TAXI, the music licensing service, generally does not accept songs with significant AI involvement; their listings often have an "AI ALERT," explicitly banning music melodically or lyrically composed by generative AI. To get around it , if you used a AI melody , just record it with live players . that should work

Thanks John , No AI was used That's cool Elvis! Don't get discouraged if it isn't accepted. I've talk with one of the managements. They said they only accept music they think can be placed. Don't expect any word for 2-3 months. They take a long time reviewing. Good luck! John

I think I'm back in business. Three placements. one was "Beyond the Gates" (new soap opera on CBS) : https://www.cbs.com/shows/beyond-the-gates/ . Maybe it was just an adjustment from all the changes that slowed things down. John
