In the General Message Forum there is a thread named "Aging rockers bickering". There, I found a quote from Tony (JAPOV): "I'm two hours from Nashville but can't afford the gas". That quote immediately got stuck in my head and I started jotting down lyrics of a song. I posted the song in that thread but I assume, like me, not everybody reads all the posts in all the different forums here. Therefore I'm posting it here once again. The song is called "Two hours from Nashville". Thank you Tony for the hook line. I used Suno for the music.

Update: I wasn't aware of the fact that the hook line that I used was actually the hook line and title of a song Tony had written 15 years ago. His original song is too close to what i came up with. I had never heard his song before but the lyrics and the melodies are very similar. I apologize. It wasn't my intention to make a close copy of Tony's song. Therefore, I'm taking this one off the board.

Two Hours From Nashville

[Verse]
Got a six-string in the backseat, an old amp in the trunk
This beat-up car is my chariot, though it smells like sweat and junk
I’ve been playing dive bars for quarters, dreaming ‘bout the Opry stage
Tonight, it’s another smokey room where the tips don’t match the wage

[Pre-chorus]
The radio plays a country tune, and I sing along in my head
A little voice says, “Keep driving,” but my wallet says, “Stay instead”

[Chorus]
I’m two hours from Nashville and can’t afford the gas
A tank full of dreams but the money’s running out fast
I’ve got the heart, I’ve got the songs, but the road’s too long to pass
I’m two hours from Nashville and can’t afford the gas

[Verse]
Every mile marker feels like a tease, so close yet so far
A skyline of promises that’s just out of reach for this guitar
I’ve written songs about heartache, and now I’m living one tonight
‘Cause the only thing between me and my dream is a needle stuck on “E” light

[Pre-chorus]
The radio plays a country tune, and I sing along in my head
A little voice says, “Keep driving,” but my wallet says, “Stay instead”

[Chorus]
I’m two hours from Nashville and can’t afford the gas
A tank full of dreams but the money’s running out fast
I’ve got the heart, I’ve got the songs, but the road’s too long to pass
I’m two hours from Nashville and can’t afford the gas

[Bridge]
Someday I’ll make it, I’ll play those hallowed halls
The crowd will sing along to my story, the rise after the falls
Tonight I’ll strum my guitar, in a nowhere-town café
Knowing every note I play is one step closer to that day

[Chorus]
I’m two hours from Nashville and can’t afford the gas
A tank full of dreams but the money’s running out fast
I’ve got the heart, I’ve got the songs, but the road’s too long to pass
I’m two hours from Nashville and can’t afford the gas

[Outro]
So I’ll sing to the stars and the moonlight on this highway
Hoping they’ll guide me, or at least keep the doubt at bay
I’m two hours from Nashville, but it’s not the end of my path
‘Cause someday I’ll make it—who needs gas when you’ve got the last laugh?
I’m two hours from Nashville and can’t afford the gas

Oh no, Tony! You're beginning to sound like Fdem. Of course you're the best. It's just that I like my version better. That's my personal opinion and it has nothing to do with you or your writing skills.

Rob, it is a great hook, and an original one too as far as I can tell. This seems like it could be relatable to a lot of people in the music business, as I'm sure it takes a lot of fuel to make it all the way. I loved the bridge the most. Good stuff man.

See how close SUNO can get wink

My 6-string's ridin' shotgun and wearing my old hat
This beat up old truck has been to Hell-n-Back
Been playin' local bars, dreamin'bout the Opry
If home is where your love is, may the good Lord forgive me

Every street sign tells me what direction I should choose
My heart says “Keep on goin'" but my rent is past due

I’m two hours from Nashville but can’t afford the gas
My tank is full of dreams but my money’s burnin' fast
I sing songs about life, truth, and love that never lasts
I’m two hours from Nashville but can’t afford the gas

I play for wings and beer 'caue I can't afford groceries
The money I make barely pays for guitar strings
The ladies like to dance but dismiss me with a laugh
Died alone and broke will be my epitaph

They say I'm hopeless but love to hear me sing
I swear this stop sign is mocking me

[Chorus]
[Bridge]
Someday I’ll show'em, I’ll play those hallowed halls
That manager at Walmart won't be laughing at all

[Chorus]
[Outro]
The new girl they hired to be a greeter
Maybe she can be my backup singer...

What do you think?

https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=14938926

I think with a little tweaking it could be even better. If you want to hear my opinion ... the sound is much better than the original. In your version it was hard to recognize the vocal melody. Suno did a great job identifying the melody and making the music sound richer. I have no idea what you were expecting but this AI stuff is really good.

All the best - Robert

btw, this was Suno's first take. I didn't run it though again and again.

Naah... I was actually hoping MAB would notice lol.

I've been sitting on that line and that rhythm for about 15yrs... I think?
Don't know if you recall... but, over at SW101 MAB was always trying to convince me to come up and visit. He was talking his usual rap about the country music industry and joked about "three chords and the truth". I was still working back then and gas prices were going crazy. I always wanted to work those angles into the lyric... but it just never "flowed".

Then you came along and simplified things lol! grin

Great job, Rob!
But, AI didn't really add anything to the composition... and the way it sang V2 is actually kinda' weird...

I'll just keep kicking it around wink

Great example of how AI will mimic a simple phone sample though...
Others should be very interested in this!

Tony,
are you pulling my leg? When you wrote that here (https://www.jpfolks.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/1199353/3/aging-rockers-bickering.html) it looked like a simple comment, not like the hook line or the title of a song you've been working on for 15 years. Why didn't you mention that in the original thread? Aah man, I thought I found an awesome hook line by accident and wrote a cool song, now you tell me you've been working on this song for over a decade. Oh boy, another project I can throw in the garbage can. Your original song is too close to what i came up with. It's amazing, I have never heard your song before but the lyrics and the melodies are so similar. I apologize. It wasn't my intention to make a close copy of your song. I'm therefore taking this one off the board.

You wrote a great song. I hope MAB finds it here.

Great job, Rob!

All I had was that one line and a rhythm, Rob... An incomplete concept...

"YOU" finished it.

What would actually be cool is if MAB would come down here now!

Just Plain Quotes
"Parents are notorious for telling you not to do something, but not telling you WHAT to do instead. So here are my thoughts. Don't bite the hand that feeds you, give it a manicure. Don't burn your bridges, go out and build more! And of course, Don't run with Scissors, use them to cut out your press clippings!" -Brian Austin Whitney
