This song has a very interesting story. A guy posted his lyrics in a songwriter forum like this one. I found his lines there and composed music to go with them. At the time I was collaborating with another singer songwriter who was stationed in Iraq and I sent him the song demo to get some feedback. He liked the song and suggested that he sing the song. He recorded his vocals and also added some guitar parts. Another guitarist from London that I was working with at the time listened to my demo and agreed to record additional guitars for the track. This is “In the Blink of an Eye”. Lyrics by Ray Bertram from Arkansas, I composed the music in Germany, vocals and guitars recorded by singer songwriter LeeAndrew Bray (in Iraq), additional guitars by Mick Hutchings (from London). They all sent me their recordings and I mixed everything together. It's so sad that my setup was pretty primitive at the time. The sound could have been much better. This is a genuine international collaboration. I hope you like the song. https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=9128579In The Blink Of An Eye In the blink of an eye The world spins around The sun comes up And goes back down We win, we lose We laugh and cry An’ it all happens to us In the blink of an eye In the blink of an eye Life starts out Time moves so slow Then it’s all gone Before we know We’re all born We live, we die An’ all of it happens to us In the blink of an eye In the blink of an eye We make our plans Dream all our dreams Try an’ figure out Everything While our days just Sail right on by An’ all of it happens to us In the blink of an eye In the blink of an eye It all goes by so much Faster than you think All that you have to do Is blink – just blink Funny how life happens Time moves so slow And it’s all gone Before we know We’re all born We live we die An’ it all happens to us In the blink of an eye In the blink of an eye In the blink of an eye

Rob,
It's a nice hook and sentiment. Clean production, snappy drums and solid vocal. Lyrically, I'm not sure I care for the last two lines of the bridge . . . but that's just a subjective thing. Lead solo is nice too. Really nice work on this.
My best to you,
Deej

A lot to like. Your usual smooth production, good hook that the lyric returns to frequently, great guitar solos. I'm with Deej regarding the bridge, more musically than lyrically. It feels a little awkward to me. Lyrically, I think Ray could have done more to paint pictures of life going by, specific episodes to make it more visual and back up that strong hook. But I enjoyed it and loved the story behind it.-

Elvis, yes, around the wold. I don't care where collaborators come from as long as they offer added value to the song. LeeAndrew wasn't a session player. He was stationed in Iraq at the time. In one of his recordings one could hear a helicopter flying by. He wasn't in a studio when he recorded his vocals and guitars.

DeeJ56, I didn't write the lyrics but I found the lyrics very inspiring otherwise I would have never written the music to go with the lines. Carroll Kiphen can confirm that I always try to use the original lyrics. When I think something can be improved or when the lyrics don't seem to fit the music I always contact the lyricist and let them write alternative lines. This song was kind of a challenge because the lyrics didn't have a chorus. Thanks for the feedback.

Hey Gavin, thanks for the feedback. I personally didn't have any issues with the bridge lyrics. In fact, that's where I tried to do something special musically. Did this one have a European sound to it?
All the best Robert
