Just found out I won the Gold Award (First Place) for Lyrics in the 35th Mid-Atlantic Song Contest (2018) for my song "The Price of a Song," as well as two honorable mentions. Nice way to start out the new year! Here's the website http://saw.org/35winnersMichael R. J. Roth www.easyheroes.com
Award-winning, original acoustic songs with "the kind of lyrics that make Nashville writers salivate."

Congratulations, Michael:
Best of luck in getting them "musicated" as our own Beth Williams says. Hopefully, winning and placing in the contest will attract some attention for you. Keep up the good work.

Thanks, guys, appreciate the encouragement. As you know, in this business every little bit helps. It's not a cut or a publishing deal, but it's nice to know someone likes your work. You never know what can come of it. The important thing is to keep plugging away!
All the best,
Michael

It is a planted seed. It may grow to be a weed or a bean stock. I had a CD win honors in the Storytelling World contest back in 2011. Three years later I started getting requests for writings from storytellers and musicians. That success culminated in three more CDs as well as productions and use in shows performed by others. Royalties have not made me rich by anyone's definition, but has paid for two water heaters, and air conditioning unit, a stove, a dishwasher, a refrigerator, and a badly needed car repair. The fun and joy this hobby has given me is priceless. Damn the odds, full speed ahead!

Great story, Perry:
Let's hope the trend continues for you. Getting things repaired or replaced by the success of your pursuits in the "Arts World/Music World" are proof of your talent.

"Sometimes reaching a goal earlier than planned is a great achievement. It shows you have worked hard, pushed ahead and made it happen. However, sometimes reaching a goal far past your original deadline, long after you wanted to complete it, and after the accolades you might once have gotten for the achievement are over, it is an even greater achievement. This shows you never gave up, due to adversity, deficit, criticism and those little life detours that end many dreams and goals. In many ways, this is a reason for even more pride!" -Brian Austin Whitney
