"A Rose Tattoo" This was recorded after the Boston Marathon bombing--"Boston Strong"...And was put out as a fund-raising effort... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRkkStu4__MMy son had introduced me to the Dropkicks several years earlier...The Dropkicks' music was not quite my preference then, but I've come to appreciate their energy...As did The Boss. Midnite P.S... And this, from two years earlier....Bruce sought out the Dropkicks...As Marc Allan Burnett might say, "It's all about relationships"... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ha6U36gzfE

Actually, Midnite...that disproves what MAB said. If Bruce and The Murphys had a relationship, he wouldn't have needed to seek them out. He sought them out because of their music. The relationship came AFTER. and I prefer The Pogues.

The relationship came AFTER. and I prefer The Pogues. I dunno Couch(Mr. Robert...And yes, I've been a fan of your writing since 2002 when I was still on dial-up:-)... This may be a chicken & egg question as to which came first regarding relationships. Every relationship has to have a beginning, and I suspect that the Dropkicks & Bruce had run across each other somewhere in the 2,000's...Neither one was a neophyte, but they hooked-up, both having paid their dues... The video I linked from 2,011 establishes their "relationship"... Whoops, golly...What did I start off trying to respond to properly? I guess that what I am trying to put-across in the videos that I linked, is that, by 2,013, when the Boston-based Dropkicks put together an EP in 2,013 to help raise funds for the Boston Marathon Bombing Victims, Bruce answered the call to join them on "A Rose Tattoo"... "A Rose Tattoo" with the Dropkicks & Bruce wouldn't have been possible if they hadn't both established a "relationship" a few years earlier, regardless of who called who first. Oh, and I won't debate ya about The Poques...I heard this last Christmas season that THIS song, is STILL the most requested for radio stations to play during the Christmas Season in Great Britain while the radio was filled with "carols"... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9jbdgZidu8Midnite

And hey, Couch:-)
The Pogues video that I just posted, I think, goes to MAB's "relationship" comments...
Did The Pogues call Kirsty, or did Kirsty call the Pogues...???
Every relationship begins somewhere...And from my experience, over the decades, as a songwriter, playwright, screenwriter while bouncing from Detroit to Chicago, to L.A. and then back to Chicago and then to Washington, DC...With several "mentors" along the way.
I began every relationship with the philosophy that whoever I came into contact with knew more than I did...I have seldom been wrong...

I think it's a whole different ballgame when it comes to famous people. As a songwriter with no brand name, Marc's idea of building relationships makes sense, because your trying to get your foot in the door, it's just like networking for jobs. It's basically just trying to get to know as many people as you can, in case one can do something for you. Or introduce you to so,embody who can. In this case you have a legendary rock icon, and a pretty well k own punk rock band. Springsteen has been known to reach out to younger, up and coming artists, if he is impressed by them, he seemingly was impressed by the drop kicks. The real power of drop kick murphies is when they are full band with bagpipes and punk driven guitars. They are just sitting there like...yeah, if you want to sing with us, your gonna sing with us,we ain't stupid! That's more mutual respect, but Bruce dont need the drop kicks to make him happy, and at this point the drop kicks dint need him any more, but it doesn't hurt to expand their audience. He has done the same thing for many young artists, he seeks them out and asks if they'd like to do a number or two. Here is a guy I really lik named Jesé malin, Bruce asked him if he'd like to do a song together. He is a punk rocker who turns to singer songwriter, I love his songs. This is such a good melody and beautiful song https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dlmBCrBJokA.

I think Kirsty was married to Steve Lilywhite, The Pogues producer. It's not a chicken and egg...Bruce contacted the Murphy's because of their music, resulting in a relationship, not the other way around. John asked Paul to join The Quarrymen because he knew Paul was good. The relationship followed, resulting in many classic albums and songs. When the relationship comes first, you get country radio. I have nothing against MAB at all...we agree on a lot. He tends to view music through a corporate, backslapping lense. I view it as a lightning strike in the soul, with the marketing coming after, if at all.

Well, Im Sure John could never imagine how freakin lucky they got as a team, and as a band. Sure they were great, but they couldn't have imagined it, I'm sure
The question becomes, if nobody knows who the hell you are, John knew Paul, Bruce didn't need to know these guys cause he's a superstar, but if they didn't know anybody, then what?
That's the issue, look at yourself couch, who the hell k owns you except people who frequent forums? Maybe Marc has a point, doesn't mean it will work for everyone or lead to anything

"If someone is truly a jerk, or truly is not deserving of any positive reply from you, polite indifference is the best response you can give. Do not insult. Do not slam. Do not follow the urge to be nasty. Simply be politely indifferent." –Brian Austin Whitney
