Hi Roy:
Thanks for having the courage to share this chapter of your songwriting story with us. It has a familiar ring to it. Most of us (songwriters) tend to be dreamers and each little "gem" of a song we create becomes our child of sorts. Naturally, we are eager for the world to hear our creation. The problem arises when so many songs are being "born" every hour... the ears of those who count are saturated. In desperation, we sometimes believe in our work so highly, we are willing to pay in order to have a shot at success.
In my humble opinion... the odds against all of us are staggering and only a few, if any, will ever darken the doors of the powers behind the music industry.
I admire your courage for telling your story. Thank Heaven, after enduring the expense and embarrassment of submitting often rejected songs... I finally made a conscious decision to simply enjoy my song creating process and learn to be my own judge and jury regarding my work. To that end, I post a few of my songs at free websites where at least minimal feedback can be obtained.
There is always the hope that "someone who counts" will hear one of my songs and get it into the hands of someone capable of carrying it to the charts. The awful reality is that it will probably never happen. Songwriting is a lonely profession (or avocation in my case) and requires courage and tenacity.
Thanks again for sharing this with us.
Regards,
Dave

"We are all millionaires, billionaires even, because right now we have today. And today is worth more than all the wealth we can imagine. So spend today wisely. Spend tomorrow wisely. Enjoy the wealth of today, and realize it is worth far more than all the money and possessions of tomorrow and beyond." -Brian Austin Whitney
