hi just buzzing around this web site checking it all out and found this subject intensly interesting. to add to what was said about the probability of similarity i'll tell you a story. i lived as a hermit for about three and ahalf years in a little cabin in the allegany moutains of Pa. no tv didn't listen to radio din't buy music. basically cut myself off from other forms of popular music expressly to avoid having other peoples ideas and melodies infiltrating my mind. i wrotes songs all the time hundreds of songs, three or four a day.i had the time with no distractions. i believe i had a few unique and original ideas but amazingly i was to find that other people had the same ideas. example. i wrote a song called "wings to fly" somehow a female singer songwriter from canada wrote a song also called wings to fly. i only read about her and her title, never heard the song and there is no way she could have heard my song called wings to fly. so how did it happen. just like it says, nothing new under the sun. i will say that other times i found that i had unwittingly written a line or title that was already used proved to be great incentive to be more creatrive and change the line and i always am happier with the change than the original idea so it helps , making me/us better writers . i am an absolute nobody in this world of song writing but i have experianced what this man has said, its all to true.
