Heh, yeah, no wonder why newcomers in the songwriting business have such bad reputation. Sometimes I really do get why the doors are as closed as they are, allthough I regret it at the same time. bite

Well, demos, maybe, but it's not the musicians, engineers and producers who's taking our money.. that's for sure. Musicians are generally paid too little, and they don't get their deserved cuts of the revenue from hit songs. So Im not sure there's a big scheme. Everybody wants an identity as an important vip, allthough very few people can make real things happen. The good people are generally more low key, I believe. cool

Either way, you've been to Nashville, seen some parts of the bizz, and sometimes there's just cucumbers and biscuits in the lunchbox. And sometimes.. (fill in your biggest dreams).

Publishing in Denmark is about the same as everywhere else. In a country with only 5.000.000 people, the vip circles are so small, they make Music Row look like a whole continent. But things are more open. Actually, one of the major labels in Denmark have unsolicited online submissions where you can just upload your mp3's! Yeah, believe that. Unfortunately there are no country artists you can pitch to. The few we have are selfcontained or are just doing covers of old hits. In fact we don't have songwriters like in the US at all, but for a few exceptions. Most artists are selfcontained over here, and if not they get their songs from the producers.

But I feel pretty close to the music industry, even in my small town up north in the world. In my small town, we have an International animation school, so very often vip's from the film industry visits. I can bump into a producer from Disney in my local supermarket, without ever knowing! I can get to London in three hours, for so little money, I could do it every week.. and in fact, if I want to, I can get on a plane 12 miles from my home at 6.30 in the morning and be in Nashville International Airport for evening supper! Fares are reasonable enough to be doing the trip couple times a year, too, if some opportunities show up. I'd bet many Americans can't make it faster! The world is amazingly small, when you look into the routes. Globalization really means that time and space is unbelieveably compressed wink

So, I'd rather take my chances in the states with my music. Country music is almost dead here, mostly because everyone who plays country does the traditional styles, so it gets a bad reputation as old farts music with the young. We don't have the contemporary traditions of country here at all, that I personally like so much. That's a major reason why I project my heart on the commercial, but also flourishing songwriters town of Nashville. I really dig contemporary country music, and have seen what can happen to a perfectly good genre, if it doesn't keep up with the times.. laugh
