Yes taste does enter into the equation, but where is MJ's "Hey Jude" or "Layla"?
No one has answered the question. Because it's a stupid question! Where's The Beatles' "Billie Jean"? (not to mention their "Thriller", "Black Or White" or "They Don't Care About Us") Calling MJ's songwriting mediocre is just plain arrogant, IMHO. You may like the Beatles better 'cause they are your childhood heroes, but that doesn't change the fact that Thriller outsold every other record ever made. That's no easy feat! You don't get to do that with mediocre songwriting!
