Well--I'll hang out my shingle.

I'm a freelance editor on the side. I can proofread your lyrics, website copy, liner notes, etc. for reasonable rates. (Typically this is $2.50/page [$.01/word], with the disclaimer that if I find an overabundance of errors, I may have to either charge a little more or switch to an hourly rate.)

Short jobs have a fast turnaround, from the same day to within a week. Longer projects (say, full-length novels) require more time, and a place in my schedule to fit them. Let me know if you're trying to meet a deadline, and I'll see what I can do.

I also offer content editing (plot, form, structure, character development, etc.), which includes detailed notes and suggestions. I have a keen eye for what's working in a story and what isn't, and why.

My clients usually come away happy. Once in a while I work with someone who didn't actually want to change their manuscript, which makes things interesting. smile But overall the people I've worked with are pleased.

I have published two novels and two co-written nonfiction books, plus numerous short stories and poems over the past ten years. I have edited professionally for five. I can't guarantee future publication, of course, but I can point out the most likely reasons your manuscript hasn't been picked up, and offer you solutions to those problems.

I work with every level of writer, from beginners to successfully published authors.
