I saw Carol Kaye playing live on a couple of occasions, and had the good fortune to have a few private lessons with her. While there are many great bassists such as my early heroes Paul McCartney, Jack Bruce and Stanley Clarke, these demonstrated what CAN be done with the bass. It's Carol Kaye who repeatedly demonstrated what SHOULD be done. I know of nobody, dead or alive, who played with more TASTE and AUTHORITY. Those two make an unbeatable combination in my book.
