Nashvillecat, Thanks so much for posting this and encouraging people to study great songs. I totally agree that this type of analysis can truly help writers to recognize lyrics that are timeless, simple, profound and also commercial. It's a terrific exercise in understanding the meaning and structure of great songs! I happen to LOVE the music and lyrics of John Prine.
