I just spent the evening listening to some incredible songwriters that some of you might know of.

Anyone know Memphian Keith Sykes? (he's written with John Prine, and had a few hits with some of his songs recorded by Jimmy Buffett - Keith wrote "When the Volcano Blows" and "Marsailles") He's also an artist in his own right. His new CD, "Don't Count Us Out" is great. Its on Syren Records. Guesting on the CD are John Prine, Iris DeMent, Rodney Crowell, Todd Snider, and Susan Marshall. He keeps fine company.

How bout Roger Cook? ("I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing", "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress", "Sliding down the Razor Blade of Love" "I Believe in Love")

or Richard Lee? ("Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue", "Cold Day in July" recently a big hit for the Dixie Chicks, and several other BIG hits from the 80s-90s)

They performed at a new church here to test the acoustics of the new sanctuary. It was awesome.

I felt in awe of being in the same room with these writers. Watching them forget lines in their own songs, just like I do, all the time. It was really great to hear the songs the way the writers intended them.

It was such a wonderful way to spend the evening. Keith hosts these things every other month, I think, and I am gonna make a point of going from now on...
