Well, just as a novice (I ain't been headhunted by anybody, including a record label), I see two problems with the missive you were sent:

(1) The missive itself is unprofessional. It has misspellings, incomplete sentences, and I would not dignify the grammar by calling it "grammar." The secretarial skills, in addition, are simply non-existent. From a professional perspective, anybody this entity represents is (my opinion) not going to get the time of day. Businesspeople (speaking as a professional manager person) expect to be approached professionally. People who can't do that are presumed not to have a product that is worthwhile selling.

(2) Your missiver is insisting on money up front, which I understand from folks on this board who are more knowlegeable than I is a Bad Thing and should be run away from. It's my understanding that anybody who seriously wants to promote your stuff has enough confidence in the quality thereof to take it "on spec," as it were, in exchange for a percentage or suchlike later, after he or she makes you a hit property.

I personally think if you have $3,500 and 400 spare CDs to invest in promotion, do it yourself rather than sending it to this guy. I think your money would be way better spent, even if you know nothing about music promotion.

And lots of luck.
