Yes he is John Michael's brother. I think he has to have the right song for his voice. On the song "Tattoos and Scars" from that album he sounds great (at least on the record). I have heard them in concert and was also impressed. I have also heard some songs on more recent albums that he just didn't sound that good on IMO. For that matter, Troy Gentry didn't sound very good on the song they did ("Gone") on the CMA's (I think)yet he sounds good on the album. I think it is slightly out of his range.
