Yeah, he kept doing gigs until the money ran out" It really depends on the genre and the audience. You're can't and shouldn't do as much banter in a rock band as you can and should in a folky, acoustic, intimate performance. I've seen a few folk/roots shows where the people just go up and play ten songs without any story and they seemed kind of ... empty... even though the songs were good. It's part of the genre.
