The lines that stands out for me are "My country turns its cheek once/Then says “Don’t tread on me” cuz I had to really think to unravel the idea expressed is that it ("My country") wants to be open to the idea of accepting everyone into it, but has grown very sensitive to the possibility of being tread upon.
Anyway, that's how I understood it. Everything else is rather straightforward. A little on the plain side, musically, for me. Maybe just needs a little added spice or something. Good stuff, though.
