It can never do any harm to have copyright registration, especially for something that is unique and has taken a lot of work.

There's also nothing wrong with self publishing, if you're getting good feedback on your work. We all release songs which are self published. Including The Wiggles who very wisely kept their publishing rights to themselves.

So what you actually need is a small print run. THEN it's all legwork and self promotion until it gets on a respected critique site. These guys you are talking about are not publishers. It's similar to a dude with a small recording studio saying he's a record company.

If you have faith in yourself, and your work has been professionally vetted, then get it out there. Why not ?
