Doug, I use a modestly priced Peavey mixer which sounds excellent. Mine is a PV20 but they make a similar PV8 which would work for your application. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-audio/peavey-pv8-mixer?pfm=spThe best powered speakers are arguably QSC but they are pricey. A single 10" puts out an amazing amount of sound. Cheaper ones are available from Behringer, Kustom, Mackie and JBL. All will work depending on your budget and your requirements for quality and volume.
