I'd like to know if anyone knows how this guy "made it." I don't get it. Is he a sensational songwriter? He sure can't sing very good. The way he twirls that mic stand around constantly, I just have to flip the channel, I can't watch him. Him and his big ass hat. There is nothing I like about this guy's stage presence. Maybe I'd really like him just shooting the breeze. Maybe he's a really nice guy. But nice doesn't make a star.
Of course, their image is hellraiser. Have they always been that way? Has that always been their hook?
I do like some of their songs, yep, I do.
I salute anyone who's made it but doesn't mean I gotta like 'em. Of course, I don't care for many of the strutting country dudes. But as for him, I just really don't get it. How'd he get there? Did John Michael's success do it? I assume that's his brother.

Yes he is John Michael's brother. I think he has to have the right song for his voice. On the song "Tattoos and Scars" from that album he sounds great (at least on the record). I have heard them in concert and was also impressed. I have also heard some songs on more recent albums that he just didn't sound that good on IMO. For that matter, Troy Gentry didn't sound very good on the song they did ("Gone") on the CMA's (I think)yet he sounds good on the album. I think it is slightly out of his range. Still, I'm a fan from when they started!! ------------------ John http://www.johnkscott.com

Yeah, I kinda like his voice on some songs. What I'm saying is that I just don't see anything special enough to make him a star. Does he play any instrument?
But man, that mic stand twirling routine is way beyond old.

LOL, Given the popularity of Montgomery Gentry, I thought my wife and I were the only ones that found the mic stand twirling routine to be idiodic. I guess there are more of us out there than we thought... ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) I kind of like a couple of their tunes but I just can't watch them. Not only because of the mic stand thing but Gentry has the crazed look of an axe murderer. I think their tough guy schtick is way overdone. And when I've heard them talk in interviews, they play that hell-raising thing up so much, I just can't listen to them. [This message has been edited by Buzz Grudge (edited 02-16-2005).]

Guys, I assure you it isn't played up. They party none stop when their on the road. Eddie plays drums extremely well.. I to think gone is out of Troy's range but JS wrote a great song.

Maybe that's how they really are but it just seems lame to me.

The only reason I get out of bed every day is that I hope to pick up the newspaper and read a report saying that a drunken Eddie Montgomery miscalculated his mic stand twirl and accidentally augered that SOB up his ass.

Buzz, yep, I agree totally that all they can talk about is how big a partiers they are. Lame, indeed. Does anyone if Eddie can write well?

duke,
I may be wrong but I dont think eddie is writing. troy on the other hand is giving it a whirl(last I heard). I was in they're mangers office and we barely got in the door after the boys were there the night before. Whiskey bottles.. I do a great imiation of eddie's (moves) that always gets big laughs. they really are great guys though. really down to earth, but drink heavily at least while on the road. my best friend was they're producer on my town album.

Well, I did write a song for those guys, Entitled, EAT MORE POSSUM. Copyrighted, demoed, ready to go. A Surefire hit! Sorry it isn't posted anywhere to listen to but maybe before the year is out. Maybe I should post the lyrics in the lyric forum. Or maybe another Surefire Hit, Entitled, YOU'LL GO INSANE. good songs for those guys.
