{Howdy Y'All! Haven't penned much for a few days...so this'n's to keep the Gray Matter from Blacking-Out. Hook's lifted from an Ol' Country Expression I've always thought was Brilliant..."Makes no sense being the Richest Man in The Graveyard"....}
Ol' Man Collins & His Widow Owned The House Up on The Hill 'Til The Day She Divorced Him For Workin'-Late-Until With His Young Secretary She Was Blond & More-Than-Cute & Soon He Had Two Women Both Competin' for His Loot...
And So There Were Attorneys Comin'-at Him From All-Sides Tho The Pressure Kept Mountin' Couldn't Let His Business Slide Stashed Some Loot in The Bahamas & Lots-More with So-Called Friends Soon He Worked Even-Harder: The Tax Man was After-Him
(CHORUS) Now HE'S THE RICHEST MAN..IN THE GRAVEYARD No One KNOWS..How-Much..He Was Worth THE RICHEST MAN IN THE GRAVEYARD Is Down to JUST..Six Feet..of Dirt--
Bought Up Tons of Gold Coinage Buried Them in Mason Jars Way Out in The Country..Where No One Knows WHERE They Are Also, Down-in-Panama There's a Secret Bank Account But, Where He's Residing Now..He Sure Can't Get It Out...
(REPEAT CHORUS)
Then One Gray Night It Happened (He Was Only Flesh-&-Blood) All The Pressure Got-To-Him His Cold Heart had Had-Enough When The Medics Arrived He Was Too-Far-Gone But His Life Insurance Pay-Out Sure Impressed..Everyone..&
(REPEAT CHORUS) HE'S THE RICHEST MAN IN THE GRAVEYARD No One CARES..How HARD-HE-WORKED THE RICHEST MAN IN THE GRAVEYARD Is Down to JUST Six-Feet..of DIRT...
(TAG) Most Say He Got..What He Deserved THE RICHEST MAN IN THE GRAVEYARD Is Down to Just Six Feet of Dirt-- {ALT: Earth}
{Thanks to Mackie's Sug, I've added this OPTIONAL After-TAG} Now the Gals are Out Diggin'..With Metal Detectas But The Gals are in Arizona..& The Jars are In Texas...

Stan the man, I like that line "And soon there were attorneys comin' at him from all sides." And that's a fine pun in the chorus: "The richest man in the graveyard is down to just six feet of dirt." This one rocks and rolls.

Thanks for Cruisin'-in, CycleGuy!!!
We've got a Local Guy here's made the news much of the last year...owned Cast-Crete Corp...worth about $26 Mil...more, prolly...who started Hiding His Wealth 'cuz Wifey was gonna call-it-quits/Did...&...He ended up a Fugitive before he got arrested just last month. (Dunno 'bout the Gold Coins, tho...That was actually what was discovered when a Drug Dealer was SUPPOSED to divulge ALL his assets in a major Drug Trial. &..when he didn't declare the Gold Coins..& they got dug-up, resulted in his being sentenced to Life Imprisonment. By a Federal Judge Buddy of mine.)
Of course, I'm always wondering How Much Business IS "Too-Much"?
So easy to see "Comfy" turn into "Discomfort" when the Urge to Get-Ahead gets Excessive. (& this Former Executive sure HAS been Exhibit "A"...heh!)
Thanks for Your Kind Visit & Words, Amigo! Best Wishes, Big Guy-Hug, & a (Pretty-Nippy-Tonight) High-Five, Stan

Some good lines Stan,a good fun lyric.Strange really I had a look around the cemetery near the city I was born in which is Manchester.A huge place with burials going back to the 18th century. There was a whole plot of land where paupers were buried. Sad in a way when you see some of the graves of the more fortunate(well not for them lol) where the loved ones have spent a lot of money for their dear and departed ones. Have a good weekend Stan Trav/John

G'Mornin' Bro!
Yeah, Cemeteries ARE kinda interesting to Visit...ambled through some myself: Old Town in New Orleans, Key West's, Bigg'n near Paris, one just Outside Tokyo (Felt kinda strange walkin' among their War Dead), and a Mountainyard's, in Pleiku..one of the Stranger Ones, where the dead were apparently left on elevated platforms, in the open, for birds to pick-clean, before burial.
Some Florida Cemeteries are now offering a "Green Option" where ya get buried in a cardboard casket, with zero embalming. One that's offered it has had only ONE participant...but it sorta resembles the Potters' Field Concept I think You're Mentioning here...for the Poor Folks.
Read where some Euro Cities have their dead "stacked" 3 layers deep..in some of the more-congested Cemeteries. (& Paris resorted to their Catacombes..Centuries-ago..to free-up the crammed cemeteries they already-filled!)
Waal...Sooner or Later, we All get us a Little Space to sorta call Our Own!!! ;-)> (I'm an Organ Donor..litterally "Can't Take It With Ya"..so I'll try to Leave Somethin' Behind"--)
Those Wealthier Victorians sure left some Dandy Architecture in their Cemetery Sections Behind...tho one of my Former Bosses, whose Grampa was a rather Ruthless Coal Baron, mentioned..on the side of Grampa's Well-Sculpted Mausoleum was scrawled: "He Cheated The Poor, He Robbed The Rich..He's Gone to Hell, The Son of a Bitch"....
Time to Exit Laughing... Thanks for Your Kind Visit & Words, Amigo!
Best Wishes & a Big Guy-Hug, Stan

Hi Stan,
That six feet of dirt line is priceless! With the guy dead and all, I don't know why this is a fun one, but it is -- LOL!

Ah, G'Mornin' Mz Maryland!!!
When I look back at all my relatives when I was growin'-up, the happiest seemed to be all Farmers, with average-sized farms, and not too-much else. There was an honest Simplicity to it. (Tho Ya HAD to keep up with Hog and Corn Prices...& Feed & Tractor Maintenance..or ya'd go broke.) Hard Work..but it had an Honesty to it.
Perhaps they were TOO good at it..their kids all went to College & moved into Cities
I had some Fun penning it...&..yep..I'm guilty of Some of the Shennanigans-Portrayed, as-well... ;-)> (No Gold Coinage in the backyard, alas..OR the Blond Secretary...either!)
But my Job has run ME these last 4-5 years...& yep, I'm gonna avoid that 6-Foot-Under-Retirement-Package...as long as-possible!
Writin' Songs-like-This is a big help...So Are Your Kind Visits, M'LadyChum!
Thanks & Best Wishes...& a Wee FHS, Stan

Dang-It, Brother Dan, How'd I forget to Thank-Ya for that Very Kind Critique...??? Too-much of my current living is at too-Fast a Clip anymore...(Contract's IN on Shop Properties, AM sorta surrounded by attorneys myself, currently gettin' it Read-Through..heh!)
WAS kinda-enjoyable comin'-up with that pun..heh-heh! Death is the Only Club where Everyone-Can-Join..and WILL..heh!
&..of course, the Dues are So-Much-HIGHER..for the Rich Folks... ;-)>
It'll be May-June before I'm Semi-Retired...but guess it was all worth it to put this Recession behind me/take what I could. Hope to have enough left to head up to NashCity & have a few Steak Dinners with some JPFers...& see What's Next!
Thanks Again for Your Kind Visit & Words, Dan-Migo!
Best Wishes & a Big Guy-Hug, Stan

Throwing out everything I've learned about lyric writing (2 thimblesful, tops), I have to say I completely enjoyed this. I mean, you have the guy already dead in the CH, still plowing along in the verses and then, in the bridge - real shocker - he actually DIES! (I'll even forgive your leading me off into "Puff the Magic Dragon" land, momentarily ). But, who cares? This is a humdinging, knee-slapper if ever I saw one, and seems very singable. Aces, bro Stan!!! Would love hearing about Ol' Man Collins. Best of luck with it.

HiDee Meister!!!
Nice Sugs, Amigo!!!
V1..I've amended the "Cute" Line since Ya showed me it Was Improveable... Still like "Both" there...
Originally liked "Soon" for the Attorney's Line...(Since it showed HOW the Gals were after his loot..) But, yeah, did use "Soon" again in that Verse...so..now it's "So". "Then" WOULD work but sorta neglects the Gals-Caused-It Hint...
"Kept" I did keep! "Mason" too! Ditto "Way"! (Big THANKS, Good Buddy!)
"Must've" felt 1-Syl too-long..& I prefer the Double-"Had" to the "Stone" Sug...but I'll keep it in-mind, for-sure.
Many Thanks for the Assist, Amigo..Steaks are A-comin'..By June, I am a-Hoping!!!
Best Wishes & a Big Guy-Hug, Stan

HiDee Brother Frank, & Thanks for Your Kind & Gentle Critique, Amigo!
I'll confess that most of my output has 15-20 minutes labor in each...my Muse arrives Meteorlike, then evaporates into the mists of everyday busyness.
Line 1, I'd wanted evabody to know He's Dead...then the rest just sorta unfolds like all the Rumors that always DO arrive Post-Mortem. Flashback-Like.
Glad it all Somehow Works...& Ya had some Good Laughs! Thanks for Your Kind Visit & Words, Good Buddy!
Best Wishes & a Big Guy-Hug, Stan

Hey Stan, this really is cute and you have some really clever lines others have already mentioned. I was struck with him dying in the bridge and felt like the info in the bridge should have come earlier in the song. JMHO but thought I would mention it.

G'Mornin' Mz Betty, Thanks for Visitin'!!!
Other'n a Mod-Down Verse in there (Where, yeah, He Dies)..I don't think I Have a Bridge in this'n'...
It's mostly a Laundry List of Leetle "Flashbacks" summarizin' Why He's IN that Graveyard..heh!
Prolly should add-in some Bickering Real Estate Agents...'cuz That's what We're up to our necks in this week. Guy who we USED to use..for Year and a half...got us a prospective Buyer, back in October...which fizzled-out during Contract negotiations. We severed our relations in November, signed with New Realtors.
New Realtors got this SAME Doc-Buyer to buy the Properties, withheld his name..& tried to rush us into selling to him.
Found out Who Buyer WAS...Wifey dug up a big pile of Documents..& after talkin' with our attorneys, have decided the 6% agents Commission'd HAVE to get split 3 Ways, insteada 2..so former Agent gets his share. & now we have ALL sides threatening to sue each other...as of today.
Lucky I fix GF Clocks for several of the Really BIG law firms downtown..& so far, hasn't cost me a penny...but if I lose this Sale on the Properties, I'm gonna go after ALL 3 of these Realtors who're acting like spoiled Brats.
Life...It's Not always a Job..OR and Adventure... Sometimes it's just One Big Hassle...heh-heh!
Thanks for Your Kind Visit & Words, M'Ladychum! Best Tuesday Wishes, Big Hugs, & a Wee FHS, Stan
