Not just saying this because you are a dear JPF friend but this IS SUPERB!!! Excellent writing, and the melody is a perfect fit. This seems like it could go so many directions, has that classic feel to it. I'm impressed Mr. Campbell. Standing ovation. smile

Good one, Scott.

Wondering about:

Her eyes shine with levity
Joy and empathy

To me, the words seem too poetic for the conversational tone of the rest of the lyric.

enjoy how the chorus applies so well to what each verse says, and the way the bridge reconfirms your hook...nice melody & writing Scott.

Thanks Ms. Lynn smile

Melody came first on this. I experimented with a couple of different hooks but they didn't really work. Then I remembered this one and, noting Gwen's birthday was fast approaching and I didn't have any ideas for a gift, it all came together smile

Hi Shayne:

Those are the lines I had in mind that I would have written differently if I was shooting for a more general purpose.

Thanks for listening and for confirming my instinct on that smile

Thanks Moke smile

Writing a bridge always comes last for me and is one of my favorite aspects of writing a song. Maybe because I can see the light at the end of the tunnel at that point. grin

I really enjoyed the piano in the middle of the room feel to this one Scott. It was like the score to The Great Gasby or a closing credit to a Bonnie and Clyde film with this song playing slowly as the two barrel down some dirt road taking bullets...But I digress. I really liked this and it is a very marketable tune--even Broadway. Great job Scott and I thought your voice carried through all the way !!

Hey Darrell:

Sounds like me and you are both very visual smile

Thanks! Glad the vocal worked for you. I did record a version a key lower that I think is probably a bit better in the chorus but not the verse. LOL - maybe I should try it in C#. smile

Scott,

A LOT TO LIKE HERE! Love the lyrics especially the chorus. I'm sure I would have wrote "if I could do it all again --- I would"

Love "I'd do it twice". Really puts a more specific point to it that changes the whole feel of what is being said. Great job.

I have some pretty good string samples if you want me to give this a go just let me know.

I love, love, love it!!! You've outdone yourself with this one, Scott. Thought I'd commented on it last week. Well, now I know for certain that I have.

"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek

Thanks Ricky. smile

VERY cool of you to offer to add string sounds! I wouldn't ask anyone to spend any time on it yet though until I get a good piano track laid down - which I expect I will do but not sure when.

At that time, I'll be in touch. You can feel free to refuse though at that point. grin

Thanks again!

Thanks Tricia - you're too kind!

But I'm glad to know I waited until it really counted!
