So, I really want to make a cool mexican style dish for dinner. I have everything I need, the only thing is I've never prepared beans before. I have a bag of dried pinto beans, but...I have no clue how to make them mashed and delicious, other than soaking them for a really long time. Any tips?

Soak them overnight. The next day, discard the water. Put them in a slow cooker or crock pot with fresh water. Add cilantro or other herb, maybe salt, cumin, or whatever spice you like. let them cook slow for maybe 5-6 hours until mushy. Discard water again. Use a potato masher to mash them up while they're still hot. You can also use a mixer, but you want to leave a few lumps or whole beans. Prepare with added spices and/or grated cheddar and/or jack cheese. Mix in salsa or peppers if desired.
Because they are so thick, be careful when reheating. They burn easily.

One way is to soak overnight or the best and easy way is to boil it while you want to prepare it.
